Recently, I saw a lot of people wondering if we are in the 4th generation.

So, the idea came to me to write an article to try to enlighten some of you and myself. Its was a bit hard But I still managed to roughly determine the time that a generation lasts. But in order to make you understand what I used to determine the 4th generation, we are going to have a history class.(sorry for all grammaticals error)

I-1st generation.

The first generation started in 1992 with "Seo Taiji and boys".

Other groups like H.O.T

Turbo, Shinhwa , Sechkies, S.E.S, and especially soloists like BoA, Lee hyori ... who are considered to be the most popular have followed Seo Taiji and debuted.

This generation of pioneers will end between 2002 and 2003.

II-2nd generation.

The second generation is probably the one that opened the international doors for future generations, with groups like TVXQ, Wonder Girls, Super junior,

SNSD

, 2NE1

, BigBang

and many others debuted after 2003 . This generation ended between 2011 and 2012 with an amazing success.

III-3rd generation

The 3rd generation, the one that has continued what theirs predecessor had started, Thanks to this generation, K-pop is exported and is more popular day after day, But it is also from there that we started to ask more questions about the generations.

BLOCK B is a group who debuted in 2011. This group is considered by some as a 2nd generation group and by others as a 3rd generation group. Same with 2NE1 (2009) and BEAST (2009) who are mainly considered as 2nd generation groups.

So, when did start the third gen ?

If BTS and EXO are considered as 3rd generation, it would mean that the 3rd gen started between 2012 and 2013.

So a generation lasts about 9-10 years:

1st gen:1992-2002 = 10 years

2nd and 3rd gen: 2012-9 (years) = 2003 / 2002 + 10 (years) = 2012 / 2013-10 (years) = 2003

4th gen: 2011 + 9 (years) = 2020 / 2012 + 9 = 2021

Does this mean that ATEEZ, EVERGLOW, G- (IDLE), ITZY, SKZ, TXT and the other groups that debuted between 2018 and 2019 are 3rd generation?

Yes and no ! Explanation:

As you may have read and be aware, some groups are considered to be both 2nd and 3rd generation, and these are the ones that started 1 or two years before the end of a generation.

I think these groups are groups that debuted in one of the year of the "bridge". What is that? it is the two or two and a half years that separate the end of a generation from the start of a new generation. this explains why there was generation confusion for the groups that started between 2010 and 2011 (and at the end of 2009), and why we're actually confused with ITZY,ATEEZ,TXT,SKZ....

Let’s sum up.

1 generation: 9 or 10 years. It does not end at an exact year but between X years and Y years.

A "bridge": The two years who separate the end of a generation from the start of a new generation, And which confuse the fans.

Start of 4th gen? : 2020, but we'll really feel it in 2023 or 2024.

ATEEZ, EVERGLOW, (G) -IDLE, ITZY, ONEUS, TXT, ... what generation are they ?: Half 3rd generation, half 4th generation.
