Actress Park Hye Soo has parted ways with the agency she had been with for 11 years.
On March 8, the entertainment agency Ghost Studio announced that its exclusive contract with Park Hye Soo had recently come to an end. Park Hye Soo debuted as an actress in June 2015 after signing an exclusive contract with Sim Entertainment, the predecessor of Ghost Studio, and remained with the company for 11 years.
After debuting in the 2015 drama ‘Yong Pal,’ she received much love while appearing in works such as ‘Hello, My Twenties!,’ ‘Introverted Boss,’ ‘Saimdang, Memoir of Colors,’ and the films ‘Will You Be There?’ and ‘Swing Kids.’ In particular, she received strong praise for her performance in the film ‘Samjin Company English Class.’
However, controversy arose in 2021 when allegations of school bullying surfaced. At the time, a netizen posted on an online community, claiming, “I was bullied by Park Hye Soo during my school days.” In response, both her agency and Park Hye Soo denied the allegations as “groundless” and indicated they would pursue legal action.
Despite denying the ‘school violence’ allegations, the controversy did not easily subside. She attempted a return with the 2023 film ‘The Dream Songs,’ and the drama ‘Dear. M,’ which had previously been postponed, was eventually aired through KBS Joy in April and KBS2 in July last year. The drama, however, suffered from poor ratings and ended its run with 0.1%.
Entertainment insiders and media outlets concluded that she has not been able to shake off the ‘school bullying’ label once it had been attached to her.
Meanwhile, it was recently reported that Park Hye Soo is currently operating a cafe she opened in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. Following the end of her exclusive contract, she has not joined another agency and remains unaffiliated with any entertainment company.
