Explosion of a transformer ignites a huge fire now spreading though the area of Sokcho, Gangwon-do
Within the evening, a transformer at a local gas station had exploded and ignited a fire in the area of Sokcho,Gangwon-do.
Because of the high winds and dry air, that fire had grown in size and had begun to spread throughout the area. Throughout this horrific ordeal, Arirang posted a video on YouTube explaining the devastation, explaining that at the time that,"There have been no reports of casualties yet, but authorities are on the lookout for possible victims and damages."
However, with much digging on my end, I found a tweet made by the user @2B09076805, who happens to be a local Korean citizen that mentions that there has been in fact 2 causalities since the fire has started.
Hello,I'm korean.There is currenty huge forest fire in Sokcho,Gangwondo. It is not in Busan!!Fire has started from explosion of a transformer and now it spreads so much.Dry air and strong wind is making situation worse.2 people died until now.
Please spread the word and pray for Korea as this fire has taken two lives already. We, the community of Allkpop hope that there will be no more causalities, injuries and hope that everyone stays safe.

For the neighboring communities, the unbearable smoke from the fires forces people out too but where do they go from there? The whole thing is a disaster.
I dont know why fires don't get the media coverage that earthquakes, floods and tsunamis do because the mortality rates from fires are incredibly high.

It is shocking how fast big fires spread. This seems like the wildfires in California where arid conditions and strong winds combine make a massive fire like this unstoppable. For the neighboring communities, the unbearable smoke from the fires forces people out too but where do they go from there? The whole thing is a disaster.
