Taiwanese netizens criticize Wanna One's Lai Kuan Lin for adding 'Chinese' in his profile

Wanna One's Lai Kuan Lin is swept up in a controversy for his nationality. 


The rookie idol from Cube Entertainment has been gaining great attention following 'Produce 101' season 2 and debut in Wanna One. His popularity is soaring not just in Korea but also in many nations across the world. The attention is especially great in Lai Kaun Lin's motherland Taiwan. The Taiwanese media even gave much spotlight to the idol star for becoming the '2nd Tzuyu' and proudly representing the nation.

However, some Taiwanese netizens are turning their backs after Lai Kuan Lin identified himself as Chinese. The issue surfaced after Lai Kuan Lin's profile for 'Produce 101' season 2 recently regained attention.


On the profile, Lai Kuan Lin wrote, "Lai Kuan Lin from China-Taiwan.''


Taiwanese netizens displeased with the ''China'' in the profile criticized Lai Kuan Lin and commented, "Go back to China", "Deport Lai Kuan Lin'', and more. 


On the other hand, Chinese netizens defended the idol and commented, "Why are they reacting so sensitive to just one word?", "I actually like him more now."


The current controversy is similar to the issues involving Tzuyu. Soon after her debut, the TWICE member was criticized by the Chinese netizens for identifying herself as Taiwanese. To this, JYP Entertainment and Tzuyu shared an official apology
