Big Bang featured in Japanese magazines

AKP STAFF

Big Bang has been pretty successful in Japan this past year, they won the Rookie Newcomer Award at the Japan Records Award Show and one of their albums even got up as high as second on the Oricon Charts. This month the boys are featured in two Japanese magazines and also conducted some interviews, check them all out below and thanks to joytothe_world for the tip. Photos from Vivi and Anan Magazine: [gallery orderby="title"] Interview for Japan Daily Sports 2010 January 3rd Issue, thanks to sjay.x @ BBVIP for translating:

Leader GD's words of love (criticism) to the other members? -"This is hard. Let's see.. Daesung is a bit too mature for his age. It always feels like he's looking after everyone. It would be nice if he acted more cute and dongsaeng-like. -TOP hyung is a type of person who gets sick of things really easily. He has no persistence. If it's something he likes he gets really into it but he also gets over it really quickly. It would be nice if he could maintain his feelings. -I want Taeyang to fall in love, since he never has before. It's an important experience for artists. It doesn't have to be a girlfriend, maybe even just a friend. It would be nice if he got a girlfriend though. -Seungri should get out more often. He needs to mature. (Seungri: What??! WHAAT??!) Me? I want to expand my outlook on life. I want to become a leader that the other members will trust and follow. BigBang Profile 1)Birthday 2)Something they treasure 3)Something that surprised them in Japan 4)Japanese food they like 5)Japanese food they can't/don't eat 6)Favorite Japanese phrase/word 7)Favorite Japanese celebrity 8)What they do on their days off 9)Food they can cook well 10)Most attractive feature (Birthdays Not Listed) D-LITE (Daesung) 2) My Almighty Bag 3) The driver's seat is on the other side, so when I first came I was like "OMG NOONE'S DRIVING!" 4) Curry 5) Umeboshi 6) KiraKira (sparkle sparkle) 7) Hirai Ken 8) I eat my food really slowly. And I stay at home all day. 9) Anything 10) My vigorous, happy spirit "Cooking is my specialty. I can make kimchi jjigae really well. (laughs) The secret to my Daesung-style Kimchi Jjigae is instant noodles soup packets. It makes it taste really good. When we lived in Korea, I would make it once in a while for the other members. I'd put in haricot beans sometimes too. When I'm alone I don't really cook much, but I do quite a lot when we're all together. My Almighty Bag? Everyone calls it that but..it's kinda embarrassing. (bitter smile) It's a bag that I carry around no matter where I go. It's got bandaids and food and handwarmers and stuff it's got everything. (laughs) ("So that you can help your members when they're in trouble?") Yeah. (laughs) Though I may be second youngest, I know I'm mentally one of the oldest. I consider myself an 'adult'. SOL (Taeyang) 2) Pet dog, Boss (male Boston Terrier) 3) Japanese CD Stores are so big 4) Curry, Ramen, Yakiniku 5) I like everything 6) Blank 7) Shimizushota Ai 8) Practises piano 9) Noodles 10) My singing voice "I was really surprised when I first came to Japan cos of how big the CD stores are! Everytime we came to Japan, I would go to a CD store and buy a new hip hop or R&B album, though we don't have the time to anymore. (bitter smile) Though, to tell the truth, we haven't had this much free time in 3 years. There was always so much to do. But I think you have to do what you have to in life before you can start to enjoy it. Although the single "Fall In Love", a collaboration with Thelma Aoyama is due to be released on the 27th, my "Must-do List" for this year is to create more solo songs. I'm planning to release a solo album. The first thing on my "Want-to-do List" is going to Okinawa!I've always wanted to go there but I've never had the time. It has to be for a vacation though, not just for a concert or part of a tour. The ocean is really beautiful there so I want to go diving. G-DRAGON 2) Friends 3) The villages are really clean 4) Crab 5) Nothing. I like everything 6) "Naruhodo" (indeed), "Koreomoshiroina~" (This is fun~) "Soodesune" (I see) 7) Nakashima Mika 8) I sleep for 24 hours 9) Dwenjang Jjigae 10) My kindness "I have good pronunciation no matter what language I speak. Maybe it's cos my specialties are rapping and imitating others. Maybe that's why people think I can fluently speak languages that I can't, so at like interviews or press conferences people ask me to answer in more detail. It kinda ruins the mood sometimes since I can't really speak it. (laughs) My favourite Japanese phrases are "Naruhodo" and "Soodesune". It's shows you're being considerate to the speaker. On my days off, I sleep no matter what. I'm always busy so I don't get much time to sleep, so when I'm not busy I just sleep for 24 hours straight! My record is 36 hours. (laughs) It's a recent record. I didn't even eat, just went to the toilet first and slept for 2 days. Hopes? I want a girlfriend! (determined smile) ("Wouldn't you be too busy to see her often?") It's ok. Just having one would be great. ("You wouldn't be able to sleep on your days off." I don't have to if I get a girlfriend. And I don't sleep on my days off, who told u that? (laughs) It's ok though! I have my pet Gaho to cheer me up. (1 Year old Chinese Sharpei) In Korea, he's more famous than me. (laughs) I've had him since he was 8 months old but he grows so fast it's scary sometimes! He's already thiiis big! (spreads his arms) He's at school at the moment though. Studying. You know, things like SIT! and TURN AROUND! TOP 2) My rings. 3) They have so many products with anime characters 4) Sushi, raw fish 5) Umeboshi 6) Bacchishi! 7) BIGBANG 8) Making songs for my solo album 9) Cocktails 10) Blank "The thing that surprised me the most was that they have so many different forms of BearBricks (bear-shaped block figurines). I like BearBricks so I collect them, one side of my room is completely buried in BearBricks. I have about a thousand. (laughs) Whenever we come to Japan, I would buy a bunch of new ones but since we don't have time to shop anymore My favourite Japanese phrase is "ikuradesuka" (how much is it?) Since it's the most important thing to know. (laughs) I also like "bacchiridesu" and "bacchishi". (I think they mean like, awesome) Well it's not really something I can 'cook' well, but sometimes when I drink with my friends I make cocktails. Like fruit cocktails for people who aren't heavy drinkers. Later this year I'm gonna be the main character in a movie directed by Lee JaeHan, director of "A Moment To Remember". It's based on war, and one of the actors I'm working with is Kwon Sangwoo. (We've already started filming, but I'm trying to focus on this for a while) I want to show a different side to me that I haven't been able to show as a part of BIGBANG. VI (Seungri) 2) Books 3) They sell meal tickets even for toppings! 4) Gyudon 5) Umeboshi 6) "Nantonaku" (No wonder) (It's a new phrase I learnt recently) "Utsukushii" (beautiful) 7) Toda Erika (I wanna be friends with her hehe), Miyazaki Aoi 8) I watch movies or dramas 9) Kimchi Jjigae 10) My dancing "When I first found out about them (meal tickets) I was sooo surprised! It's amazing that they can even buy toppings with them! I have to have egg with my gyudon. Always. I also order kimchi. I'm learning Japanese through Japanese dramas or variety shows. So I only know how to speak conversationally. I watch stuff like "Boys Before Flowers" and "Nodame Cantabile". I've recently started watching Sakurai Sho's "The Quiz Show". And I just watched "Conditions of a Witch" (from 1999) after listening to a song from it. Who sung it? (hums) Ahhh, Utada Hikaru. She's so famous. My favorite Japanese actress would be Miyazaki Aoi. Member analysis by the Members 1) Biggest Clean-Freak: G-Dragon 2) Messiest Member: TOP 3) Best Cook: D-LITE 4) Person Who Dresses Up the Most: TOP 5) Person Who is Hardest to Wake Up: G-DRAGON 6) If BIGBANG was a family, what roles would everyone have? Taeyang = Mom G-Dragon = Dad Seungri = Neighbor TOP = Baby Daesung = Eldest child
Anan 2010 Interview | English translations by : http://bigbangupdates.blogspot.com
You are getting a lot of media exposure here. What do you think is the difference between Japanese and Korean media? TOP: In Korea, we seldom do magazine interviews. The focus there is more on pictures. But here in Japan, it seems like the interview is more of the focus. G-DRAGON: Here in Japan, there's like a lot of different kinds of magazine. Each has its own personality. SOL: In Korea, there are 3 major stations and when we perform there, we only sing and dance and the focus is more on the performance. But here in Japan, there's also an interview/talk portion. Here in Japan, MCs are usually comedians/gag men. SOL: Yes. That's why they ask a lot of comments and I get embarrassed. People here want to know more about the artist so MCs ask a lot of questions. Are you now used to speaking in Japanese? V.I.: It's difficult but eventually, we'll get used to it and enjoy. How about the fans? What are the differences? G-DRAGON: Here in Japan, the age of our fans vary. In Korea, our fans are mostly from 10-20 years old. D-LITE: I have observed that Japanese really like music. SOL: They're very detailed and observant. D-LITE: There are now more people who sing along and dance with us. It's good. Your fans are mostly women. V.I. : There are also men. But mostly, women here in Japan. Your music attracts a lot of people, even men. But Japanese men are shy so they don't really go watch and cheer. TOP: That's good. How do you feel about Japanese women's style? Like fashion and make-up. G-DRAGON: Japanese women are beautiful/stylish even if they're old already. In Korea, once they get married / become a mother, a lot stop caring for fashion. You noticed that? G-Dragon: I like Japan! That's good. TOP: Also in South Korea, women are more into natural make-up. But here, it's like there are a lot of types of make-up? SOL: They're also interested in a lot of styles/fashion. I think Japanese women look like dolls. Dolls? Like a Barbie doll? SOL: Yes. That's right. Now, I'm embarrassed (Laughs) Now, what are looking for in a woman? What attracts you? TOP: Neck lines. What? What do you mean? TOP: I'm not weird. (Laughs). In South Korea, women are usually praised because of their 'S-Line'. G-DRAGON: I like women who respect their family and friends. So the face is not that important? G-DRAGON: I don't know. Usually, when women are together, they act normal but when they're in front of men, they act different. D-LITE: I want a girl who has a beautiful smile and works hard. SOL: I don't really focus on the physical appearance. I want someone who's nice and who likes me for who I am and someone who likes animals because I have a dog. Not like V.I. because my dog usually barks at him. V.I. : That's not true. I'm really close to Sol's dog. (Laughs.) I want someone who has a pretty voice. Because when I'm busy, we can only talk on the phone. Can I ask you a question? Sure. What's your question? V.I. : Anan (the magazine) is for adult women? What usually do they like? Young or old men? In Japan, younger men are usually popular among older women. V.I.: Really? I'm young! You're still young to get married. Among the members, who do you think is going to marry first? SOL: D-Lite is for sure. TOP: He wants to get married this year. Can I announce that? D-LITE: Yes, I'm getting married this year. My birthday is in April and I want to get married at the age of 26. I'm sure a lot of people will be sad. D-LITE: The day before I turn 27, if I don't have someone by then, I'll just pick anyone who passes by and I'll marry her. (Laughs) Are you okay with marrying Japanese women? D-LITE: Of course! Japanese women are nice! No. Japanese women are scary when they're angry. D-LITE: Really? I haven't seen anything like that yet. Both men and women seem nice. G-DRAGON: I want to get married soon too. That's surprising! G-DRAGON: I often say this. I really want to find someone to love and then get married and raise a family. That will be a shock to fans. TOP: I think I'll marry late. Probably when I'm 40. I still want to have the freedom to do what I want to do. But when I meet the right person, I'll probably change my mind and want to marry her. D-LITE: Ah, right. SOL: I think I'll also marry late. I'm not the type who smokes, drinks or goes out at night but I think it's not yet the right time. Who will be the last member? SOL: V.I. V.I.: I'm not thinking about marriage yet. Korean men are known to be very romantic. How do you think you will you do with your marriage proposal? V.I.: I'll take my girl to go skydiving and I will propose at the top. If she rejects me, I will go down on a parachute. SOL: That's like threatening her. (Laughs) Me, I'll probably propose through a song by playing the piano. That's nice. SOL: I only thought about this right now. I'm already imagining how difficult it will be. You're not yet that fluent in Japanese. Are you still studying? G-DRAGON: In Korea, when foreign artists come, they speak a little Korean and it makes us happy. So I really want to be good at Japanese so I could sing more Japanese songs and talk more. How about your Japanese? *V.I and D.Lite says something in Japanese. I think they were mimicking someone* (Laughs) V.I.: I've been studying by watching Japanese dramas and listening to Dong Bang Shin Ki. In your song, 'Let Me Hear Your Voice', which was used in a drama, you're like a single man asking women for sympathy. V.I.: Single? Yes, like the main character in the drama. SOL: Like going to movies alone? V.I.: Exercising at home alone? And a little yoga... D-LITE: What? By yourself? Hmm.. V.I.: Yes. Why? In South Korea, aren't there less single women because they marry young? SOL: Well, there are now more bachelors in South Korea and women are now working so marriage is also delayed. So, what will we be looking forward during your stay here? A lot of Japanese women are excited for your activities this year. G-DRAGON: We're finally going to have our tour. SOL: D-Lite was in an accident last year so now that he has recovered, we will have our concert so please look forward to that. D-LIRE: I'm doing okay now. I was able to rest fully in the hospital and I wasn't able to perform in the musical with V.I. TOP: The stage felt empty when he was out. But now that he's back, it's more lively. G-Dragon: Definitely. Any solo activities this year? SOL: I'm releasing my solo album. I've been working on it for a long time. TOP: D-Lite and I are also releasing solo albums. G-DRAGON: Big Bang will also come out with a new album. V.I.: I'm going to a university this spring. *V.I. telling he wants to do musicals like Amon Miyamoto. SOL saying V.I. is getting ahead of himself* What are your goals this year? G-Dragon: To master Japanese!! SOL: Similar to 2009, I would want to have experiences that I can learn from and explore. In 2009, I worried a lot. In 2010, I just want to laugh at things. TOP: Conquer the universe! D-Lite: Show you good music and better side of me. V.I.: I want to show that I'm versatile and will work hard as a student and do my best.
