Actress Uhm Ji Won has shared details about the serious injury she suffered and provided an update on her surprisingly fast recovery.
On March 12, the actress uploaded the video “Uhm Ji Won Starts Walking Just Two Weeks After Major Surgery - Revealing Her Beast-Like Recovery” on her YouTube channel ‘Umjeewon.’
In the video, Uhm Ji Won appeared in a hospital gown while focusing on rehabilitation therapy. She explained, “I’m practicing walking while placing a small amount of weight on my body in a near weightless state. Right now, gravity is only applied at about 40% of my body weight.”
She continued, “At the moment, I can only put about 30% of my weight on the injured foot. My condition will be considered normal once the balance between both feet is the same and I can bear 100% of my weight.”
When the production staff commented that there was about a 50% difference between her two feet, Uhm Ji Won responded, “Originally, the injured foot was at 0%, so it has improved a lot,” as she described her rehabilitation progress.
Her unusually fast recovery has also drawn attention. She said, “Today marks exactly two weeks since my surgery. Normally, people begin rehabilitation around the two-week mark after this type of surgery.” She added, “But I started rehab just three days after the surgery. Stitches are usually removed after two weeks, but mine were taken out four days ago.”
Despite the progress, she admitted she is still experiencing pain. “It still hurts. There’s a pain that feels like lightning striking,” she said honestly about her current condition.
After completing her rehabilitation session, she shared some positive updates about her recovery. “I’m getting a little better every day,” she said. “I usually eat two meals a day, but here I’m eating three. Maybe because I’m eating well, my bones seem to be healing well too,” she added with a laugh.
She also reflected on how the accident changed her perspective. “After going through this incident, I realized I need to take better care of my health,” she said. “I’m going to work harder on exercising from now on.”
Toward the end of the video, footage of her being discharged from the hospital was also revealed. After about a month of hospitalization, Uhm Ji Won became emotional while completing her discharge procedures, saying, “I prayed for the well-being of the critically ill patients who come here. I hope everyone recovers well and can return to a healthy life.”
Previously, Uhm Ji Won revealed that she suffered an ankle fracture while traveling in Japan last month and urgently returned to Korea to undergo surgery.
A video released on her YouTube channel on March 5 showed her moving through the airport in a wheelchair, being transferred to the hospital, and breaking down in tears after hearing the results of her surgery.
Describing the accident, she explained, “I didn’t get injured while skiing. Several things happened at once. My shoe got stuck in a manhole, and with my foot fixed in place, my ankle twisted and the bone completely broke.”
She added, “Both the large and small bones were broken, and they shattered.”
After undergoing a surgery that lasted about two hours, Uhm Ji Won expressed relief, saying, “I saw the surgical results, and they said there were no issues.”
She reassured fans, adding, “You must have been surprised to suddenly see me injured like that, but I’m recovering well now, so there’s no need to worry. Next time, I’ll share my rehabilitation process again when I’m in much better shape.”
