Nana, a former member of After School and now an actress, has expressed her intention not to appear in court as a witness in the robbery case involving a man in his 30s who broke into her home.
According to her legal representative, Nana submitted a notice of non appearance as a witness on February 20th KST to the Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court in the trial of suspect A, who is charged with robbery causing injury.
At the first trial held on January 20th at the same court, A appeared in detention attire and admitted to entering Nana’s home using a ladder, but denied that he had intended to commit robbery. He claimed, “I entered because the balcony window was open, and my purpose was simple theft.” He also insisted that he did not know the residence belonged to Nana and that he had not brought a weapon when he entered.
A further alleged that during the confrontation inside the home, he was actually the one resisting Nana and her mother. He claimed that Nana suddenly rushed at him and stabbed him in the neck with a knife, and denied strangling her mother, stating that he only grabbed her shoulder area. His testimony was reportedly inconsistent and difficult to follow.
The presiding judge responded, “Put yourself in their position. If someone breaks into your house at dawn and acts that way, could you remain still?” A acknowledged the point.
During the hearing, it was also revealed that A is currently facing a separate insurance fraud trial at the Bucheon Branch of the Incheon District Court related to a 2020 case.
The defendant’s request to change his court appointed lawyer was also raised. The judge advised him to carefully consider his counsel’s advice, emphasizing the importance of objective legal guidance.
A is accused of breaking into Nana’s residence in Acheon dong, Guri, Gyeonggi Province, around 6 a.m. on November 15th last year, threatening Nana and her mother with a weapon in an attempt to extort money. The two reportedly subdued him after a physical struggle and called the police. Investigators determined that A had targeted the upscale residential area due to worsening financial difficulties.
While in detention, A recently countersued Nana on charges including attempted murder. However, police decided not to forward the case, ruling that her actions constituted self defense.
Nana’s agency, Sublime, released a statement condemning the suspect’s actions, stating that Nana and her mother were victims of a serious armed robbery. The agency added that the suspect has shown no remorse, has repeatedly changed his statements, and has continued to make false claims, calling it malicious secondary victimization.
The agency confirmed that police concluded the countersuit lacked merit and that they have filed a complaint against the suspect for false accusation. They further emphasized that they will pursue all possible civil and criminal legal measures to hold him fully accountable and to protect Nana’s safety and reputation.
