Actress Jeon Jong Seo has become the subject of tax-evasion suspicions after questions were raised over a one-person agency she established with her partner, director Lee Chung Hyeon. Her agency has firmly denied the allegations, stating that all earnings were settled transparently.
Controversy grew after it was revealed that registration under the Popular Culture and Arts Industry Development Act had not been completed for approximately three years and eight months. As the issue spread, her representatives responded, “This is completely unrelated to tax evasion. All income was transparently settled to the individual.”
According to film industry sources, on February 10, Jeon Jong Seo founded the one-person corporation Summer Co., Ltd. in June 2022. Roughly three years and eight months later, on February 4 of this year, the company completed its registration as a popular culture and arts planning business. The corporation’s stated business purposes reportedly include planning and developing film and drama content, as well as managing actors.
Jeon Jong Seo serves as CEO of the company, while Lee Chung Hyeon, whom she has been publicly dating since 2021 after meeting through the film 'The Call,' is listed as an internal director. Under current law, any business engaged in celebrity management must register with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism or a local government. The delay in registration led some to question the background circumstances.
In response, her agency ANDMARQ explained, “Summer Co., Ltd was not established for management purposes but for content planning, development, and production. At the time of incorporation, business categories were broadly listed. They included management-related items, but there were no concrete operational plans in that area, so the need for separate registration was not recognized.”
The agency added that the matter was recently reviewed, and administrative procedures were corrected accordingly. Addressing speculation tied to recent tax-evasion controversies involving one-person agencies in the entertainment industry, the company stressed, “This case is entirely unrelated. Since signing an exclusive contract with ANDMARQ, all income has been properly settled and paid to the actress.”
Jeon Jong Seo debuted in 2018 through the film 'Burning' and has since appeared in 'Nothing Serious,' the Hollywood production 'Ballerina,' and other projects. She most recently greeted audiences with the film 'Project Y.'
