Rapper Dok2 has reportedly failed to repay approximately 49 million KRW (about 32,489 USD) for jewelry purchases three years after a court ruling, according to a report by Munhwa Ilbo on April 3.
OhKims, the legal representatives of the jewelry company, stated, “Dok2 was ordered by the court to repay his debt in three installments. However, he has only made one payment, leaving the remaining balance unpaid.”
The dispute dates back to October 2019, when a foreign jewelry business owner, identified as Mr. A, filed a lawsuit against Dok2’s former label, 1llionaire Records. Mr. A claimed that between September and November 2018, Dok2 purchased seven pieces of jewelry valued at approximately 267 million KRW (about 206,000 USD at the time), but failed to pay about 43 million KRW (about 28,505 USD) of the total amount.
In July 2022, the court largely ruled in favor of Mr. A, ordering Dok2 to pay the unpaid amount of 43 million KRW (about 28,505 USD) plus interest for delayed payment. The court further instructed that the sum be paid in three installments by January 6 of the following year, warning that any missed payment would trigger immediate liability for the full remaining debt and accrued interest.
After the ruling, Dok2 made a partial payment of approximately 14 million KRW (about 9,274 USD), leaving around 49 million KRW (about 32,489 USD) still outstanding. Dok2’s attorney stated, “It is unreasonable for him to delay repayment, citing financial difficulties, while continuing to stay in the U.S. long-term.” The statement also hinted at possible legal actions, including enforcement measures and asset seizure, to secure the debt.
The controversy has intensified following news on March 28 that Dok2, along with his partner singer Lee Hi, has founded a new label, 808 HI RECORDINGS, signaling a planned comeback. OhKims emphasized, “If Dok2 intends to return to the entertainment industry alongside a renowned artist, fulfilling legal obligations is a basic prerequisite.” They also noted that legal measures could extend to the jointly established company.
