Singer Chuu has opened up about her growing interest in acting, sharing her determination to continue expanding her career beyond music.
In an interview with DongA.com held on January 7 at a café in Gangnam, Seoul, CHUU reflected on her appearance in the KBS2 drama ‘My Girlfriend Is the Man’, which aired last year. She said, “I felt truly honored to be able to act,” expressing gratitude for the opportunity and describing the experience as both exciting and meaningful.
Chuu first made her acting debut in 2019 through the tvN web drama ‘Dating Class’, and more recently played Kang Min Joo, a university “hot girl” with a one-sided crush, in ‘My Girlfriend Is the Man’. She admitted that she initially questioned whether she had the skills to portray another person’s life, even taking acting lessons to avoid becoming a burden on set. However, she found comfort in realizing that the emotional expression she developed through singing translated naturally into acting.
As her interest deepened, Chuu revealed that she recently completed filming an independent movie. She shared that experiencing emotions and situations outside of her everyday life felt refreshing, adding that she hopes to continue challenging herself and explore a wider range of genres in the future.
Chuu also addressed the unexpected attention she received for her serious, straight-faced acting during a skit on Moon Sang Hoon’s YouTube channel. Known for her bright and bubbly image, she said the positive reactions made her realize there are still many sides of herself she has yet to show.
Balancing both music and acting, Chuu explained that while singing allows her to tell her own story, acting lets her borrow someone else’s life and perspective, an unfamiliar but appealing contrast. “That initial awkwardness became something new and exciting,” she said.
Meanwhile, Chuu released her first full-length album ‘XO, My Cyberlove’ at 6 PM KST on the same day. The album features nine tracks across genres such as pop, R&B, indie, hyperpop, and alternative, led by the title track "XO, My Cyberlove", marking a new chapter in her artistic journey.
