Police have conducted a search of the residence of a woman known as the so-called “Injection Aunt” as part of an investigation into alleged illegal medical practices involving broadcaster Park Na Rae, authorities said Tuesday.
The Seoul Gangnam Police Station said on January 7 that it carried out a search and seizure of the suspect Lee’s home and related locations in late December. Lee is under investigation for suspected violations of the Medical Service Act, the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act, and the Narcotics Control Act.
According to police, Lee is accused of administering intravenous drips and prescribing antidepressants to Park Na Rae at an officetel and inside a vehicle without holding a valid medical license in South Korea. Authorities believe the acts constitute illegal medical treatment.
Lee is also suspected of having provided house-call medical services to other public figures, including YouTuber HAETNIM the short mouth and Key of the idol group SHINee.
The case was transferred to police after the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office received a complaint from former Korean Medical Association president Lim Hyun Taek. Public attention grew after former managers currently in dispute with Park Na Rae released photos showing her receiving IV treatment at a non-medical location. The images suggested that prescription-only medication had been obtained outside of a hospital setting.
Park Na Rae later stated that she believed Lee was a licensed medical professional. Lee also claimed to have previously worked as a professor at a university in China, though authorities later confirmed that the claim was false. The allegations have sparked widespread controversy, with medical organizations emphasizing the seriousness of unlicensed medical practices. Police, citing the gravity of the case, imposed a travel ban on Lee last month.
Authorities said they will summon Lee for questioning after completing an analysis of the seized materials, as the investigation into the exact circumstances of the alleged illegal medical activities continues.
