Singer Ailee has just opened up about her journey through IVF treatment, alongside her husband Choi Si Hun.
On January 4, Ailee posted a new video to her YouTube channel, updating fans on her IVF journey. In the video, Ailee and her husband attend an appointment at their IVF clinic, where Ailee then undergoes a hysterosalpingography - an X-ray procedure which investigates the cause of infertility in a patient.
Ailee revealed her anxiety before the procedure, saying, "I'm trying to calm my nerves by playing a game. I'm so nervous...They said it would be painful, and I'm scared... In a way, this is just the first step towards becoming a parent. It's exciting, but it's also too much. I'm scared it will hurt."
Choi Si Hun comforted Ailee, referencing their future child as he said, "Coco-ya, be good to your mom and dad."
Ailee laughed and responded, "We've already created a nickname for a baby that doesn't even exist yet. It may never exist."
The couple showed their nervousness as they waited in the doctor's office, holding hands.
Afterwards, Ailee returned from the procedure and confirmed that it was painful. She described the experience: "I went back and saw many expectant mothers laying in hospital beds. They were just lying there. Some of them were in extreme pain, while others hadn't even started their anesthesia yet and were just lying calmly."
Ailee revealed how painful and scary the procedure she had was: "I had to have my fallopian tubes cleared, and it was so painful. But before it even started, I was already scared from what they said - they told me, 'If it hurts, don't hold it in, just tell us. Some people have fainted from holding it in.' It was so scary."
She revealed that she was able to endure the procedure by thinking about all the expectant mothers also undergoing treatment alongside herself. "I thought about the sight of all those hopeful mothers in the hospital beds outside. Just thinking about how desperate they must have felt... Even though it's so hard and painful, we're going through all of this just because we want children that badly. Suddenly, I just started crying." Ailee said that she strongly hoped every hopeful mother there would succeed in their treatment, and receive a child one day.
