Hwang Ha Na, the granddaughter of Namyang Dairy Products’ founder who had been subject to an Interpol Red Notice, was arrested by police after entering South Korea for the first time in about a year.
According to reports on December 24 KST, Hwang, who had been wanted on charges related to the purchase and use of methamphetamine, arrived in South Korea at around 7:50 a.m. on a flight departing from Cambodia. Police reportedly executed an arrest warrant at around 2 a.m. at Phnom Penh International Airport, just before she boarded a Korean Air flight.
The Gwacheon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province has secured Hwang’s custody and plans to conduct a thorough investigation into the overall circumstances of the case, including drug-related charges.
Hwang Ha Na previously drew public attention as the former fiancée of singer-actor Park Yoo Chun and as the granddaughter of Namyang Dairy Products’ founder.
In 2019, she was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year suspended sentence for purchasing and using methamphetamine together with Park Yoo Chun. In 2020, she was again indicted for violating the Narcotics Control Act and received a sentence of one year and eight months in prison. Last year, she was once more booked on drug-related charges but abruptly left South Korea for Thailand in mid-February. She is believed to have subsequently entered Cambodia illegally and lived there.
During the investigation, police identified additional allegations against Hwang and requested an Interpol Red Notice, while also seeking assistance from local diplomatic authorities.
