Singer Sung Si Kyung has once again shown his integrity and compassion by personally compensating a victim who suffered financial losses in a “no-show” scam carried out under his name. This heartwarming story surfaced shortly after it was revealed that Sung had himself been the victim of large-scale embezzlement by his longtime manager.
On November 7, a restaurant owner identified as A left a comment on Sung Si Kyung’s official YouTube channel, sharing their experience. “I am the owner who appeared on 'Sung Si Kyung’s Food' and a victim of a celebrity impersonation scam,” the comment read. “In May, I received a call claiming to be about filming a follow-up episode of Sung Si Kyung’s Food. The caller asked me to prepare an expensive bottle of whiskey and demanded money. I lost 6.5 million KRW (approximately 4,464 USD) to the scammer.”
A continued, “After confirming with Sung Si Kyung’s team that it was a scam, I reported it to the police. While I was devastated and in shock, the restaurant phone rang. It was Sung Si Kyung himself.”
According to the post, Sung expressed deep remorse, saying that he felt responsible because the scam had used his name. He insisted on personally reimbursing the victim’s losses.“He told us, ‘Let me cover the damages,’ and transferred the money. His message, ‘I’ve sent it. Please don’t worry and stay strong’, will remain in my heart forever,” A wrote. “Thanks to Sung Si Kyung, I was able to regain my composure and return to everyday life.”
The restaurant owner added that when recent media reports about Sung’s situation began to spread, they wanted to share their story to help him, but he had modestly declined.
“The Sung Si Kyung I met was honest, humble, and never sought recognition. I can only imagine how much pain he is in now. It breaks my heart,” A said. “After seeing fans quietly leave words of support, I decided to write this message. I hope this story of kindness spreads instead of bad news. I sincerely wish for him to overcome this hardship and continue to comfort and inspire many people for years to come.”
Meanwhile, Sung Si Kyung recently became a victim of large-scale embezzlement by his former manager of more than ten years, identified as Mr. Kim. Reports indicate that Kim diverted VIP concert tickets under the pretext of preventing scalping and embezzled hundreds of millions of KRW, transferring profits to an account under his wife’s name.
On November 3, Sung’s agency SK Jaewon confirmed, "The former manager engaged in actions that seriously violated the company’s trust during his employment. We have recognized the seriousness of the matter and are verifying the exact extent of damage. The employee has since left the company.”
That same day, Sung Si Kyung addressed the incident on Instagram, writing, “The past few months have been extremely painful and difficult. Experiencing betrayal from someone I trusted and considered family is not the first time in my 25-year career, but it never becomes easier, even at this age.”
Despite his personal hardship, Sung’s quiet act of empathy toward a scam victim once again reminded the public why he is admired not only as a talented singer but also as a person of deep character.
