When the announcement that Kim Woo Bin and Suzy would be reuniting once more for a drama project by writer Kim Eun Sook, the K-drama fandom was enthralled.

The hype surrounding this drama centered around the fact that it’s been nine years since actors Kim Woo Bin and Suzy worked on a project together. After fans were left devastated with the ending of ‘Uncontrollably Fond’ many fans thereafter were constantly asking for these two to come together once more for another project to redeem their less than satisfactory ending in the series.
So you can imagine, the joy and happiness that came when the fans wishes came into reality. However, maybe the lackluster viewership began even before the drama was to air. Starting with the poster teaser.

When the poster was released, an onslaught of backlash ensued. With the accusation of cultural appropriation taking over, there became a significant drop in interest.
But it didn’t stop there. As the series finally came to air, while it was off to an interesting start, the plot just went off kilter. With many viewers stating that the emotionless character’s way of speaking and cursing was awkward for Suzy to portray. Then, with the story line being difficult to follow for some others.
Despite the fact that Kim Eun Sook is also a well known screenwriter. As she’s mostly known for legendary dramas like ‘Goblin’ and ‘Mr.Sunshine.’ Viewers had high hopes for another project written by her, only for viewers to state that it didn’t meet their expectations and that they were highly disappointed with how the screenwriting was for this series.
Even Song Hye Kyo’s cameo couldn’t help with the boost in viewership either, rather than helping with the viewership, her appearance caused more frenzy with just how astoundingly beautiful she looked instead.
Maybe it’s just the mix of high fantasy with romance that didn’t bode well for the viewers as it’s not your typical romance, but let’s hope these two actors unite maybe more for a modern romance in the future!
