Over the years, technology has greatly evolved and now has the ability to generate realistic videos. These AI programs have been absorbed in all aspects of our lives and are being used in different fields, including entertainment.
Recently, tvN released a moving poster teaser for its highly anticipated weekend drama Typhoon Family, starring Lee Jun Ho and Kim Min Ha, which has gained the attention of online users.
Set during the 1997 IMF crisis, the series follows Kang Tae Poong (Lee Jun Ho), a rookie businessman suddenly thrust into the role of a trading company president, and Oh Mi Seon (Kim Min Ha), the meticulous accounting officer keeping the company afloat. The drama is set to premiere on Saturday, October 11, at 9:20 PM, following 'Bon Appétit, Your Majesty.'
However, the release of the moving poster has sparked debate among Korean netizens, who have pointed out that the poster appears to have been generated using an AI program.
The short clip shows Lee Jun Ho transitioning from different settings as he gets out of a vehicle. Korean netizens expressed discomfort, pointing out that the AI-generated images made Lee Junho’s face appear different and awkward in motion. While some acknowledged that AI use is becoming common globally in the entertainment industry, the overall sentiment among fans leans toward preferring real actors for visual content.
"At that level, you could just film it. If it were content with an entirely AI-created actor, then fine. But when the real person exists, why do it like this? If I were a fan, I wouldn’t even see this as proper content; it doesn’t look like Lee Jun Ho at all."
"I get AI being used for trendy stuff like glass fruits or whatever, but this? Isn’t this something the actor could just shoot? Why go out of the way?"
"When he moves, he really looks like a different person."
"AI is already being commercialized everywhere. Korea’s actually late to it. Since powerful countries are already using it, it’s just the flow of the times. Complaining about AI use feels pointless."
"If it were fan-made, I’d get it. But the production company can use the actor however they want, so why this?"
"When did Junho ever look like that? LOL"
"Why even make this with AI?"
"I honestly thought it was some fan short video."
"Oh wow… this is bad."
"The movements are obviously AI."
"I mean, it’s well-made, but who would actually enjoy this?"
"The AI is too obvious."
"This could’ve been filmed normally… why use AI for it?"
"There’s already an actor, so why use AI? Other than saving money, what’s the point?"
"I think AI can be used, but in this case… unnecessary. It’s not even appealing."
"The video looks awkward."
