On July 22 at midnight KST, NewJeans posted a short clip on their official social media page celebrating the group's debut anniversary. The clip marks July 22 as NewJeans day and reveals an animation of the five members drawn in a Japanese animation style.

Meanwhile, less than 2 years into their career, controversy struck. NewJeans became embroiled in a legal battle with their company, ADOR, with the members seeking to end their exclusive contract while citing mistreatment, and ADOR seeking to establish that NewJeans' contract is in fact still in place and has not been violated through claimed mistreatment of the group.
With the courts recently granting ADOR an injunction to prevent NewJeans from carrying out independent activities, it has now been over a year since NewJeans has officially released new music. In addition, the majority of the group's previously-extensive list of sponsorships have now ended and been taken up by currently active groups and idols.
