Broadcaster Jang Sung Kyu (42) experienced a suspicious incident that he believes may be a hacking attempt.
On July 16 KST, Jang posted on social media, “This is strange. I didn’t request any verification, but I received three verification codes. What’s going on? Is this a hacking attempt?”
The photo he shared shows three text messages containing verification codes, all received between 9:13 and 9:14 a.m. that day. It appears someone tried to authenticate using Jang’s phone number, either by mistake or intentionally.
Previously, Jang warned fans about impersonation accounts, saying, “I was going to ignore it, but I’m speaking up in case anyone gets scammed. Please don’t fall for it. I will never create any other account besides this one.”
Jang had recently returned to social media after a roughly two-month hiatus. On July 14, he announced his return, saying, “I’ve ended my unintended Instagram break and made a flashy comeback.” He also launched a new YouTube channel titled “Washed-Up Jang Sung Kyu” (퇴물 장성규).
The channel is a new project by Go Dong Wan, the PD behind the viral YouTube series “Workman”, which helped propel Jang to greater fame. Jang expressed strong trust in Go, saying, “‘Workman’ gave birth to me. Go Dong Wan is like a mother to me. I came back because I believe in him.”
