Prosecutors have requested a two-year prison sentence for an individual who persistently harassed actress Shin Se Kyung over several years.
On June 26, Shin Se Kyung’s agency, The Present Company, stated, “Prosecutors have requested a two-year sentence for the defendant indicted on charges of continuous cyber harassment against Shin Se Kyung.”
According to the agency, the defendant repeatedly engaged in anonymous online behavior that included threats, malicious slander, spreading false information, and insulting language, not only targeting Shin Se Kyung but also her fans, family, and acquaintances. This prolonged harassment caused serious emotional harm to both the actress and those around her. The defendant was eventually arrested by the police and is currently awaiting a first trial verdict.
During the court proceedings, the defendant’s lawyer appealed for leniency, explaining that the defendant had been living in isolation and is now trying to reintegrate into society by working part-time for 14 hours a week. The defendant reportedly admitted to all charges. However, prosecutors, citing the severity and repetitive nature of the threats and malicious comments, demanded a prison sentence of two years.
The agency stated firmly, “We have secured extensive evidence of additional malicious posts and online harassment, and we will respond to any similar incidents with the same level of seriousness. No leniency will be considered for the perpetrator.”
They added, “In order to prevent the recurrence of innocent people suffering due to someone’s twisted desires, the perpetrator must be held accountable under the principles of law and justice, no matter how long it takes.”
