Actress Cha Joo Young is set to take on her next big challenge — her first leading role in a romantic comedy — as she aims for a third consecutive hit.
According to the industry on June 2, Cha Joo Young has been cast in the upcoming drama 'Who Are You'. The series tells the story of Lee Tae Joo, a black ops agent who has lost his memory, and Yoo Ah Rin, a national sweetheart who has lost love. The two embark on a journey to recover their true memories and feelings in this romance-comedy drama.
Cha Joo Young will play the female lead, Yoo Ah Rin, a top actress who generates buzz with every project she stars in. She is also the daughter of a prominent presidential candidate from the main opposition party.
In Who Are You, Yoo Ah Rin is portrayed as someone who doesn’t let things slide and always speaks her mind. Professionally, she’s at the peak of her career, but behind the scenes, she carries the burden of a painful family history, adding emotional depth to the character.
Cha Joo Young made her acting debut in 2016 with Cheese in the Trap. She rose to prominence through back-to-back hits including Netflix’s 'The Glory' (2022–2023) and tvN’s 'Wonkyung' in 2023.
Her role as Hyejeong, a school bully-turned-flight attendant, in The Glory left a lasting impression and significantly raised her profile. In Wonkyung, she played Queen Wongyeong, a determined and elegant character who helped her husband, King Taejong, secure power — a performance praised for its nuance and strength.
Now, all eyes are on Cha Joo Young as she takes on her first romantic comedy lead in Who Are You, with anticipation growing over how she will charm audiences in this new genre.
The 12-episode drama has not yet finalized its broadcasting schedule.
