The production team behind the Wavve original lesbian dating reality show 'ToGetHer' has announced a temporary suspension of episodes due to growing controversy involving cast member Ri Won.
On May 1, the show’s producer, Display Company, issued an official statement apologizing to viewers and addressing the current issues. The statement read, "We sincerely apologize for the concern caused by recent developments surrounding the program."
The team explained that the controversy had rapidly spread across online communities and media outlets, resulting in doubts about the show's overall direction and authenticity. They expressed deep concern about the harmful consequences of online harassment. "Targeted attacks, malicious comments, sexually inappropriate direct messages, misinterpretations, and unfounded claims have inflicted serious harm not only on the cast but also on the show, its audience, and the broader LGBTQ+ community."
The producers firmly denied rumors suggesting they were aware of Ri Won’s past before casting her. "That claim is false. We did not recruit cast members based on inappropriate intentions or through improper channels. Every participant was subject to a verification process." They further explained that earlier suspicions were reviewed during internal meetings, but at the time, the evidence did not clearly connect to Ri Won. During an interview, Ri Won also denied the claims, and the production team concluded there was insufficient basis to exclude her.
Regarding the trip proposal allegations, the team noted that the matter was addressed in a group meeting in early April, during which Ri Won again denied the accusation. The producers emphasized that no definitive evidence has been presented so far. "We do not wish for speculation to continue spreading. However, if concrete evidence emerges, we will take immediate and appropriate action."
As part of their response, the team announced the postponement of episodes three and four, which were originally scheduled to air on May 2. This break will be used for internal review and restructuring.
"We are committed to editing the show in a way that maintains its emotional narrative and respects the real experiences of the cast, while also reflecting public feedback and criticism," the producers stated.
Display Company, which has also produced the LGBTQ+ dating series 'His Man,' reiterated its intention to treat the project with sincerity and respect. "We have never viewed this show as just entertainment. It is the result of careful planning and meaningful effort. We do not want 'ToGetHer' to become a spectacle centered around someone's past or controversy."
The company concluded by expressing gratitude to viewers and promising to carry the show forward with integrity and responsibility.
