On May 2 KST, girl group I-DLE celebrated their 7th debut anniversary with the release of a special mini album, 'We are i-dle'.
The mini album contained a total of 9 tracks - "LATATA", "HANN", "Senorita", "Uh-Oh", "Oh My God", "Lion", "I'm The Trend", "DUMDi DUMDi", and "HWAA" - all re-recorded as 5-member versions, erasing traces of former member Soojin.
Earlier this week, I-DLE signaled their new beginning by holding a funeral for the letter 'G' which used to come before the group's name. The special mini album, released on I-DLE's debut anniversary, continued to signal the group's rebirth after many cycles of growth and transformation.
How did Korean netizens react to I-DLE's 'We are i-dle'? Some commented,
"I love that they did this."
"This was the right decision."
"I'm so happy about this rn."
"These songs are all bangers TT. So glad I can listen to new versions of them TT."
"Now the fans can listen to the old songs more comfortably."
"This was the right thing to do for the fans."
"A nice, clean move."
"I hope that this will quiet down the international fans who keep demanding 'ot6'... there is no such thing as ot6."
"But you can still listen to the old versions too right? So it's not that dramatic of a move. It's still smart if you're considering the fans who feel uncomfortable listening to the old versions."
Meanwhile, I-DLE plan to release their 8th mini album later this month on May 19 KST.
