Jeong Hyun Gyu, the winner of Netflix’s survival reality show 'The Devil’s Plan: Death Room,' has expressed regret toward fellow contestants Kyuhyun and Yoon So Hee for the criticism they received following the broadcast.

On the morning of May 27, an interview was held at a café in Anguk-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, with director Jung Jong Yeon and winner Jeong Hyun Gyu of 'The Devil’s Plan: Death Room,' a mind game survival series on Netflix.

The show featured 14 contestants from various professional backgrounds who lived together for seven days and six nights, competing in strategic brain games to determine the ultimate winner. Jeong Hyun Gyu claimed victory after defeating 13 other participants.

However, the win came with mixed reactions. Jeong faced online backlash from some overly invested viewers, particularly for his comment to Choi Hyun Joon saying, "You know basic math, right?" and for game moves that were perceived as betrayals of Kyuhyun and Yoon So Hee. In response, Jeong changed his social media profile to include a brief apology that read, "I’m sorry."

Reflecting on the public response, Jeong said he spent a lot of time thinking about his actions. "I sincerely participated with the goal of winning, but I understand that some viewers felt uncomfortable with my approach. I take full responsibility and have spent time reflecting," he said. "I don’t think I won because I was better than everyone else. I just did my best in each situation and was lucky to have support from others."

He added that the experience taught him the importance of conveying sincerity. "It made me realize how important it is to express your true intentions to people. I am continuing to reflect on that."

Jeong also spoke about his close relationship with Kyuhyun and Yoon So Hee during the show. Their bond was strong, and a dating rumor even emerged between him and Yoon So Hee. "We played together for a long time and eventually reached the final three. I wanted to compete fairly with them, but they had to leave the game. I feel responsible for asking them to join my alliance, which may have caused them to face criticism," he said.

Jeong won 380 million KRW (about $277,000) in prize money, and he previously announced plans to donate part of it. "I don’t have detailed plans yet, but I want to treat the other contestants to a nice meal. Since I caused some trouble for the show and the viewers, I plan to donate a portion of the prize money as well," he said.
