BLACKPINK member Lisa found herself at the center of unexpected controversy following her appearance at the 2025 Met Gala, held on May 5 (local time) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
In line with this year’s theme, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”, Lisa showcased a daring bodysuit look featuring sheer fabric and a no-pants concept. The bold outfit, paired with sophisticated styling, made Lisa a standout on the red carpet, drawing praise and attention from global fans and industry insiders alike. The custom piece was designed by musician and creative director Pharrell Williams.
However, the next day, the Daily Mail reported that Lisa’s lower garment appeared to display an image resembling civil rights icon Rosa Parks, stirring controversy online. Critics argued that the outfit may be misaligned with the event’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, which celebrates the heritage and impact of Black fashion.
In response, Louis Vuitton told The Cut that the printed artwork was created by painter Henry Taylor, who is known for his portraits of both prominent and everyday individuals. When asked directly whether Rosa Parks’ face was intentionally depicted, the brand replied, “Henry Taylor often paints both well-known figures and anonymous individuals,” avoiding a direct confirmation.
Rosa Parks is widely regarded as a symbolic figure in the American civil rights movement, best known for her pivotal role in the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott.
