Kang Minseo, leader of the group Fantasy Boys, is at the center of growing concern after he was seen repeatedly making a hand gesture resembling an internationally recognized distress signal during a recent live broadcast.

On May 3rd KST, during a live stream on the group’s official account, Kang made a hand gesture interpreted by viewers as a plea for help: holding one hand up with the thumb tucked in and the fingers folded over it—a signal used by victims of domestic violence or abuse to discreetly ask for rescue. The gesture quickly circulated online, with fans expressing alarm and questioning whether it was a genuine cry for help.

Fueling speculation, it was later announced that Kang Minseo would not attend a scheduled video call fan event on May 4th. The event’s host, Everline, cited “health reasons” for his absence, but fans became more anxious due to the timing—just one day after the live broadcast incident.

Kang’s previous messages on the paid fan communication platform Bubble have also resurfaced, with fans reevaluating his words such as “Just got off work,” “I don’t think I’m okay,” and “It’s a bit overwhelming.” While these may have originally seemed like typical signs of fatigue, some fans now believe they could have been coded expressions of distress.

His agency, PocketDol Studio, has yet to release a statement or clarification.

In response, fans have launched a social media campaign using hashtags such as #ProtectFantasyBoys and #HelpFantasyBoys, urging the agency to check on the members’ well-being. Some are even preparing truck protests, suggesting the controversy is unlikely to die down soon.
