Singer and actress Nana is set to appear in court as a witness in an upcoming trial related to a violent home invasion incident. She is expected to directly refute what her side describes as false claims made by the suspect.
According to legal sources, the first criminal division of the Namyangju branch of the Uijeongbu District Court will hold the third hearing for a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on April 21. He is currently in custody and faces charges of robbery and causing bodily injury.
On March 28, a representative from Nana’s agency confirmed in a phone call with Dispatch that both Nana and her mother will attend the hearing as witnesses.
The case stems from an incident last November, when Mr. A allegedly broke into Nana’s residence and threatened her and her mother with a weapon. However, in a controversial turn, the suspect later filed a counter-complaint against Nana, accusing her of aggravated assault and attempted murder. He claimed that her actions to subdue him amounted to attempted murder.
Authorities at the Guri Police Station in Gyeonggi Province dismissed the suspect’s claims due to a lack of evidence and decided not to forward the case to prosecutors. In response, Nana’s side filed a counter-lawsuit against Mr. A for making false accusations.
During the first hearing in January, Mr. A admitted to trespassing but denied any intent to commit robbery. He has since maintained that his actions amounted only to theft, rejecting most of the prosecution’s charges.
It has also been reported that the suspect refused to consent to key evidence submitted by the prosecution. As a result, the court may be unable to use that evidence in determining guilt, making the testimonies of Nana and her mother particularly crucial.
Nana had previously been unable to attend court due to scheduling conflicts, but she has now adjusted her schedule to testify in person. Cross-examination by the defense is also expected during the hearing.
Meanwhile, Nana is currently starring in the ENA Monday–Tuesday drama 'Climax,' where she plays intelligence agent Hwang Jeong Won. She also recently appeared in the music video for 'ANOTHER DIMENSION,' the title track from T.O.P’s latest release.
