Attorney Boo Ji Seok of Law Firm Buyou, representing the family of late actress Kim Sae Ron, has been reported to Korea’s Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
On April 29th KST, a complainant identified as Mr. A reportedly filed a whistleblower complaint against Attorney Boo, claiming serious misconduct in connection with the ongoing legal case involving Kim Sae Ron’s family.
Previously, actor Kim Soo Hyun’s agency filed a criminal complaint against Kim Sae Ron’s family, a YouTuber, and an individual identified as Ms. B, who claims to be Kim’s aunt, accusing them of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (specifically regarding the distribution of content filmed using cameras).
Mr. A alleged that Attorney Boo was heavily involved in the matter, claiming he either incited the unlawful distribution of private images through faulty legal advice or acted as a co-conspirator in the act itself.
The complaint further stated, “As the legal representative of Kim Sae Ron’s family, Attorney Boo did more than provide legal advice. He actively disseminated the family’s claims and used his status as a lawyer to present false information as if it were verified fact. This abuse of legal authority warrants serious criticism.”
Mr. A also claimed that Boo presented unverified materials as fact, stating, “Through press conferences and other channels, Attorney Boo publicly raised provocative accusations of ‘grooming-related sexual assault,’ causing irreparable harm to Kim Soo Hyun’s long-standing reputation and public image both domestically and internationally.” The complainant added that this has resulted in financial and reputational damages, including the threat of lawsuits and the potential suspension of upcoming projects.
The controversy stems from claims made by Kim Sae Ron’s family alleging that she dated Kim Soo Hyun when she was still a minor, suggesting possible “minor grooming.” To support their claims, the family released past messenger conversations between the two. At a press conference last month, Attorney Boo stated, “At the time, Kim Sae Ron was 17. In her letter, she wrote that they had dated for five to six years and described him as her first love.”
