ILLIT attended the press conference for the 75th NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen, held on November 19th at the NHK Broadcasting Center in Tokyo, Japan.
Invited as first-time performers at the Kōhaku Uta Gassen, the members expressed their excitement, saying, “It’s an honor to stand on such a significant stage like the ‘Kōhaku Uta Gassen’ in the same year as our debut as ILLIT. We’ll deliver an energetic and amazing performance, so please look forward to it.”
The Kōhaku Uta Gassen, broadcast annually on December 31st by NHK, is one of Japan’s most prestigious year-end music programs, featuring artists who have had outstanding achievements and gained widespread popularity during the year. ILLIT’s invitation to this program, even before their official debut in Japan, underscores their rising popularity in the country.
The show’s unmatched viewership and media buzz make an appearance on the program a benchmark for an artist’s local success and popularity.
ILLIT has had a remarkable year in Japan. Their debut mini-album 'SUPER REAL ME' and its title track “Magnetic”, released in March, broke records as the fastest single by a female group to surpass 100 million cumulative streams on both the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) and Oricon charts. Additionally, the song ranked 5th on TikTok’s “Songs of the Summer 2024” list in Japan.
Riding on this popularity, ILLIT topped the Rookie Artist Category of the Tower Records Music 2024 First Half Streaming Rankings and recently secured the top spot in the Artist Category of Shibuya109 lab’s “Trend Awards 2024.” Their achievements reflect their sweeping presence across various charts.
Currently, ILLIT is actively promoting their follow-up track “Tick-Tack” from their second mini-album 'I’LL LIKE YOU.'
