Actress Han So-hee's mother has been arrested on charges related to operating illegal gambling dens, according to reports from TV Chosun.
The 50-year-old woman, identified as Ms. Shin, was taken into custody on September 2nd for allegedly running 12 illegal gambling establishments in cities such as Ulsan and Wonju since 2021.
Ms. Shin is accused of using "proxy owners" to front these operations, where patrons accessed a gambling website run by her to play games like baccarat after purchasing game credits.
Ms. Shin has a history of being sued for fraud and has previously received fines for similar offenses. The case has drawn additional attention due to Han So-hee's earlier public statements distancing herself from her mother after past debt controversies came to light.
In March 2022, Han So-hee's agency released a statement acknowledging that Ms. Shin had been involved in several fraud cases, including forgery, but clarified that Han So-hee was not connected to her mother's actions, as determined by the court.
