T.O.P
The June 9 broadcast of KBS 2TV's 'Entertainment Weekly' focused on the drug Benzodiazepine, which Big Bang member T.O.P took before his hospitalization, after the unrest caused by his marijuana scandal.

Previously on June 7, test results revealed traces of the drug in the idol's body. T.O.P had overdosed on Benzodiazepine as medical experts claimed he was experiencing respiratory problems.

Neurosurgeon Kim Kyung Soo commented on the average dosage, "If a person takes one pill a day it is 5mg and 10mg. In more severe incidents, it's about 2 pills."

Mr. Kim also mentioned, "Similar side effects like that [of T.O.P 's case] can occur if a person ingests 20 pills or more."

Meanwhile on June 9, T.O.P transferred hospitals, leaving the ICU at 2:30 PM KST. He's looking to receive psychiatric treatment at a different hospital with private facilities.

Benzodiazepines are not meant for long-term use. Therefore, anyone taking them longer than 24 hours is being harmed. Benzodiazepines cause an iatrogenic brain injury and central nervous system damage by downregulating GABA receptors. One is not addicted but they develop dependency because littler research has been done on the long-term use of benzos. It takes years to recover and sadly, the anxiety and panic that many use benzos for ends up turning paradoxical and the patient begins to feel worse anxiety and panic than they did before being prescribed the benzos. Benzos also cause depression, suicidal thoughts and should be tapered very slowly. I can't imagine TOP having to stop this medication for military service. It is extremely dangerous to stop a benzo adruptly, it must be slowly tapered which generally takes 1-2 years to get off these class of drugs. Prolonged benzo withdrawal symptoms last years - lifetime. Wish him the best, he is such a talented artist and hate to see him having to go through this.
