As South Korea marked the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day on August 15, stars from the entertainment industry joined in honoring the nation’s independence, sharing images of the Taegeukgi (Korean national flag) both at official events and on social media.
G-Dragon commemorated the occasion by posting the Taegeukgi on his Instagram Story.

Actor Cho Jin Woong attended the 80th Liberation Day ceremony at the Sejong Center in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Dressed in a black suit and tie, he solemnly recited the national pledge:“I pledge, before the proud Taegeukgi, to devote myself to the eternal glory of a free and just Republic of Korea.”
The event, themed “80 Years of Liberation: Building the Future through People’s Sovereignty,” was attended by 2,500 guests, including descendants of independence activists, senior government officials, diplomats, and citizens.
Cho has a long-standing connection to Korea’s independence movement, having served as a “People’s Envoy” during the 2021 repatriation of independence fighter General Hong Beom Do’s remains. He has also portrayed independence activists in films such as 'Assassination.'

Singer Lee Seung Gi marked the day by posting a photo of the Taegeukgi alongside a plaque recognizing his family as a “Distinguished Military Service Family,” noting three generations from his grandfather onward. Lee served in the Army Special Warfare Command’s 13th Special Mission Brigade, the “Black Panther Unit,” from February 2016 to October 2017.

Actor and model Bae Jung Nam expressed gratitude for the sacrifices of Korea’s patriots, stating, “We will never forget the noble sacrifice of all who gave their lives for our nation’s independence.” He also shared his personal collection of Taegeukgi photos, inspired by his 2023 film role as sharpshooter Jo Do Seon in Hero.

Comedians Kim Jun Ho and Kim Ji Min visited the Seoul National Cemetery, dressed in black, paying respects and raising Taegeukgi alongside fellow attendees. Kim Ji Min said, “We express deep gratitude and condolences for the sacrifice of our patriots. Long live Korean independence.”

Other celebrities, including Song Ga In, Girls' Generation’s Seohyun and Yuri, EXO’s Sehun, WINNER’s Kang Seung Yoon, and Jun Hyoseong, shared Taegeukgi images on social media. Actors
Kim Hee Sun, Park Bo Young, Lee Dong Wook, Jung Hae In, Han Ji Min, and Kim So Hyun also commemorated the day online.
From official ceremonies to social media tributes, South Korea’s entertainment industry united to celebrate the nation’s independence and honor the sacrifices of past generations.
