A dispute has arisen after a newly debuted Japanese girl group, everglow. (lowercase with a period), was found to have the same pronunciation as the South Korean girl group EVERGLOW, despite different stylizations. Fans pointed out the similarity not only in name but also in the logo design, which features a ring motif reminiscent of EVERGLOW’s.
The backlash prompted public apologies from producer Yoshimura Soichiro and agency head Honma Shota on August 11 KST. Both admitted to a lack of prior research and pledged to change the group’s name and logo to prevent further confusion. Yoshimura clarified that the term “everglow” was one he had personally valued and used in individual activities for about a decade, and that the logo was inspired by the infinity symbol — but conceded that the result looked too similar to the existing group’s branding.
EVERGLOW, formed in 2019 under Yuehua Entertainment and known for hits like "Bon Bon Chocolat", "Adios", "Dun Dun", and "La Di Da", ended their contracts in June 2025 without surpassing the seven-year milestone. While members Sihyeon and Onda stated that disbandment was not official, their last release, "Zombie (2024)", now stands as their final group activity to date.
