SISTAR's Soyu opened up about her past strict, and possibly unhealthy dieting on the July 19 broadcast of '1 vs. 100.'

The idol revealed how she achieved dramatic weight loss in the past, saying, "There is a really terrible [dieting] method among the methods I've tried, and I lost 8kg (~17.6 lbs) in one month. I did not eat any carbs or sodium."

Soyu then revealed how she had broken down during this diet, confessing, "My mom's friend handed me some watermelon to eat but I felt like everything I accomplished [with my diet] would come crashing down, so I cried holding the watermelon."

Yea she said that even her agency asked her why she lost so much weight? Then she had to put on back some weight because she ended up looking older than she really is.

People really push themselves to do crazy things for no good reason. Losing weight without needing to, using a physically unhealthy, emotionally draining method so that you start crying? Not smart.

these diets sound sooo unhealthy and brutal @_@

jaime_park Wednesday, July 20, 2016

this is terrible but I definitely laughed when I read "cried while holding watermelon"

Aish... If idols want to lose weight, then they should exercise heaps and stay away from fast foods instead of starving themselves. I hope she never does that again T_T And same goes for every other idol out there.

OMG... "possibly unhealthy"?

bestfriend3298 Tuesday, July 19, 2016

I can totally understand her right now...because that's what I'm doing and it's really hard for someone who loves and is addicted to carbs.

arirangradio bestfriend3298 Wednesday, July 20, 2016

carbs dont make you fat though. thats a myth lmao

arirangradio bestfriend3298 Wednesday, July 20, 2016

You can eat as many carbs as you want to just dont eat fat bc the fat you eat is the fat you wear! :)

I'm sorry but it does, especially if you don't use them. Carbs if not used turn into fat so yeah it does make you fat. I read the article and it did mention this .

arirangradio MonstaXisLife Wednesday, July 20, 2016

Carbs if not used turn into body heat, though. I'm sorry but where did you read it in the article? I have to be honest i didnt read the whole thing just looked over it. I did read the china study and mcdougalls books and watched several documentaries on this and everywhere it says that carbs are not the enemy. Fat makes you fat.

The body uses Carbs as fuel. Just make sure that the source of the carbs provides you with nutrients (vtamns, minerals and other good shit) as well.

That's not called dieting, that's called an eating disorder.

ppase Tzustice Wednesday, July 20, 2016

a lot of ppl have gone with out carbs for a month. to lose weight. its not a disorder. smh

justine246 ppase Wednesday, July 20, 2016

It is if a piece of watermelon reduces you to tears.

ppase justine246 Thursday, July 21, 2016

have anyone ever gave you a burger when you know ur suppose to on a no red meat no carbs diet for 21 days? yeah id come close to crying.

justine246 ppase Thursday, July 21, 2016

I think the difference is a burger is not exactly a health food. You still need basic nutrients no matter what diet you're on (you can still get protein with no red meat) and watermelon is known to be a healthy food, or at least it's not bad for you and contains mostly water. Even if you're on a no carb diet you need SOME just because your body requires it. Cutting out entire food groups and depleting your body of what it NEEDS because you're afraid to gain weight is the hallmark of an eating disorder.

I still think that ppl are over reacting to what she said. She said it was a terrible dieting method she use to do to lose a certain amount of lbs. Ppl have done the same, going on crazy diets (weather its healthy or not) to lose a couple of lbs before an event or something doesn't necessarily make you have an eating disorder. And I could relate to what shes saying, after working towards a goal sticking to a certain routine and then it all comes crashing down cuz you gave in to one thing. Now, It becomes an eating disorder when it becomes a daily habit and being obsessive about your weight and other things that fucks with your mentality, It seams like she stopped doing that diet after she lost the lbs, because shes being hitting the gym more often now for the past two years.

i feel like you can only call it healthy dieting if your not afraid of food. if you become afraid of food, the dieting method is wrong. kpop idols should realize that they are still role models for young girls. telling these stories get them sympathy, but they should also realize that it's rly damaging to let young ppl who are still studying or working to think that this kind of dieting is the only way to look and feel good about yourself. these stories about how idols are hurting themselves in order to look the way they do only help them gain sympathy, and hurts other ppl as well, so it seems a little selfish to me that these stories are heard about continuously. and not just about losing weight, but stories about how idols want to gain weight, so they eat watever and still dont gain weight make me upset as well, bc they should still be promoting good eating habits.
