The first court hearing for former NCT member Taeil (real name Moon Tae Il) is set to take place.
According to legal sources, the initial hearing, which was originally scheduled for May 12 at the Seoul Central District Court’s 26th Criminal Division, has been postponed and is now being held today (June 18 KST).
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office’s Women and Children Crimes Investigation Division 1 (headed by Chief Prosecutor Kim Ji Hye) indicted Taeil and two accomplices without detention in March on charges of aggravated quasi-rape under the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
The three are accused of sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman last June along with two acquaintances. The charge of aggravated quasi-rape applies because the alleged crime was committed by two or more people against a victim who was in a state of unconsciousness or unable to resist.
Taeil debuted in 2016 as a member of NCT U, the first unit of NCT, and later promoted as part of NCT 127. Following confirmation of his criminal involvement, SM Entertainment swiftly announced his departure from the group and formally terminated his exclusive contract in October of last year.
