IU's broad fan base & appeal

2011 has been a year full of newly debuting Kpop artists. There is one 19 year old, however, who boldly made her independent mark in the Kpop world. Her name?IU. Not only is she adored by all Korean males, but IU has an even larger fan base- she is loved by older girls and women as well. With her amazing talent combined with her cute image, how could you not adore her? Recently, IU postponed her plans to attend college, turning down numerous colleges who were all willing to allow her to attend without the need of taking any entrance exams. Her management reported on the 22nd, "She has decided to postpone her plans to attend school for the time being. With her busy schedule, it would become nearly impossible for her to attend class regularly." "I want to go to school when the timing is right. It would be too hard to do that right now," IU stated. It's not that she doesn't want to study, but because she feels she wouldn't be able to give her studies her undivided attention. It is true that numerous colleges have acknowledged talented celebrities, whether it be singing or acting and publicly offered special admission into the school, as it would also effectively advertise the school as well. Few celebs have used being busy as an excuse, but with IU stating that she wouldn't be able to give her 100% to her studies as a reason for her turning down the offer proves that for a 19 year old lady, she's pretty mature. September 18th was IU's third anniversary since her debut, and her fans thoughtfully put up posters in the subway stations to celebrate. IU's management stated through their officialTwitter, "Thank you to all of IU's fans that celebrated her debut anniversary with this advertisement poster! You guys are the best; Let's keep going until her 100th!" IU even went to the subway and took a photo in front of the ad, thanking her many fans who took the time out to do this for her. There's a phrase in Korean that says, "You come see me, and I'll pay for your cab back home." IU decided that fans who come out to see her shouldn't have to pay for their own ride back home, and so she went out to buy a prepaid transportation card for a lucky fan. Not only that, she took the time out of her busy schedule to handwrite 50 letters to her fans and personally kissed each letter after applying dark red lipstick. By no means is IU a newcomer to the Kpop scene, and its refreshing to see that she very much still cares about her fans, and by IU postponing college until she's completely ready shows how responsible she is. Its no wonder she has such a broad range of fans. Her thoughtful personality and mature common sense only add to her appeal. IU's new album will be released next month!
