After Beach Fossils made a post on Twitter seemingly agreeing that hyukoh's "Panda Bear" and their "Golden Age" sounded similar, hyukoh's leader Oh Hyuk has made an eloquent and heartfelt response on Instagram.

Oh Hyuk posted a screenshot of Beach Fossils' tweet, along with these words:

We've received this kind of mention.

I have a conscience and pride regarding my music. Up until now there hasn't been one moment where I have written songs with bad intentions. My dream is to create music for my entire life, and if I thought that I could receive recognition by copying, I wouldn't have even started music in the first place. I have not plagiarized.

We're still a new band that hasn't been out a year yet, and without a full album yet, but we've received interest gratefully at very fast pace.

We know ourselves that we are still lacking in many areas. But up till now we have been upright in terms of our music and will be upright from now on too. We would like it if you all kept watching over us.

Beach Fossils has also followed up their previous tweet by saying, "I'm not taking this seriously at all & nobody else should give a s*** either. It's just funny! Peace & Love."

ohhyuk has an amazing voice its so uniq I guess thats what makes Hyukoh group more amazing,

Jeswiz Friday, July 31, 2015

Beach Fossils is toying with the Internet trolls who tried to make both songs seem copied but I still favor the sincere response by Hyukoh over this baseless accusation even thought it was started by anonymous persons on the Internet (could be rival companies, butthurt fans or simply haters). I'm more interested in who started this rumor over whether did Hyukoh plagiarized.

Jeswiz Friday, July 31, 2015

They even bothered to make an effort to do a video to video comparison on YouTube. Seems like an organized anti-marketing campaign.

I'm a little mad people keep saying Beach Fossils are nobodies when they are actually one of the most popular indie rock bands around. Just because a majority of you guys didn't hear them, doesn't mean they aren't famous or popular, point blank. korean music fans are so quick to throw stones and then say they did this for exposure. they don't need more exposure, they already have it!

iceage Thursday, July 30, 2015

who says 'Korean' music fans are quick to throw stones? most of the pple on this damn site obsessing over Kpop are not Koreans, that I can assure you. y'all are like creepy international fans let's be real

aomg Thursday, July 30, 2015

@iceage I'm pretty sure by 'Korean fans' this person meant fans of Korean music. They weren't trying to be racist. As yeah sure most people on this site are international fans, and some are immature but I can gaurentee you that for every dumb international fan theirs and equally dumb Korean fan. This person made a valid point so don't ignore what they said just so you can ignorantly throw up the race flag.

AJ_ROBLESSK8 Friday, July 31, 2015

@(OwO) agreed. They're viewing it within the confines of the Korean music industry, which obviously doesn't apply to Beach Fossils. Beach Fossils aren't looking at this to gain any attention, they already have a loyal and strong fan base.

(OwO) Friday, July 31, 2015

@iceage korean music fans, not people that are fans who are korean lol

shyloone Thursday, July 30, 2015

Who the hell is beach Fossils anyway i have no idea who they are they must need some existance so have to get recognised by comments thats other make that are obviously just jealous of all of Hyukohs fame..keep writing and producing great music Hyukoh i never take mind to what others say bad about great talented artist its all just jealousy, im not a Korean or live there and im a big fan of Hyukoh and always will be there music is different clming and fresh and i love it

(OwO) Thursday, July 30, 2015

just because you haven't heard them doesn't mean... nevermind -.-

xhalksy Thursday, July 30, 2015

@(OwO) we just simply dont care! You said they the most famous indie and yet nobody talk about them!!

(OwO) Friday, July 31, 2015

@xhalksy okay so stop caring and move along then please lol

badjainna Friday, July 31, 2015

LoL its Funny how people say that Hyokuh music are different. Maybe they haven't heard others indie band from different countries specially in UK and US and Japan, even in Thai and Philippines, even inside Korea. LOL! They are only different coz Kpop fans haven't heard Hyokoh genre before. Hahaha!

ygfan15 Friday, July 31, 2015

Just because you don't know a band doesn't mean they don't exist and are not successful. Maybe you should expand your horizon more, you might be surprised by how good indie bands are. Just because they're not famous in your world does not bring any justifications to your claims. BF have no need to be jealous of hyukoh on any aspect at all. They're quite famous if you truly are a music enthusiast.

shyloone Saturday, August 1, 2015

@ygfan15 actually i know alot of indie bands thankyou i just dont really know them and for your information my horizons are expanded to all generes of music thankyou.. and I stated what is my own opinion..

shyloone Saturday, August 1, 2015

@badjainna Kpop Fan??? lol

turtle_tats Thursday, July 30, 2015

Hyukoh fighting! First time I'm fangirling over a band. ;

ygfan15 Thursday, July 30, 2015

Beach Fossils' response regarding the topic was unprofessional and tacky. He could've done so more gracefully instead of using words that negatively reflect them as an uneducated douche. He attacked a rookie group with subtly offending words but otherwise getting the point across: hyukoh plagiarized. However, seeing that his target was far more classy, professional and eloquent, he backtracks his words and pretentiously spreads "peace & love".

Anyway, going back to the real issue here. Hyukoh did not plagiarized. In a band such as Hyukoh and Beach Fossils, there's only a limited amount of chords you could play in an instrument, therefore it is not uncommon that overlapping and seemingly similar sounding music exists. However, this does not mean that one or the other plagiarized. ;

The fact here is, people who do not know anything about music at all should just keep their mouth shut. Unless you have proof and an actual knowledge of music, you're opinion should not be regarded as acceptable at all. ;

ygfan15 Thursday, July 30, 2015

CandyDropper Thursday, July 30, 2015

Yeah they lost any subtle respect they could have as a band. Hyukoh was classy.

AJ_ROBLESSK8 Friday, July 31, 2015

Beach Fossils did nothing wrong. Hyukoh stole their rhythm and style on what became their most popular song. Beach Fossils can respond however they please.

CandyDropper Friday, July 31, 2015

@AJ_ROBLESSK8 Annnddd who prove it?

AJ_ROBLESSK8 Friday, July 31, 2015

@CandyDropper Prove what? The Beach Fossils song that Hyukoh copied was released in 2010! Hyukoh has barely been around for a year! There's no argument to be made in defense of Hyukoh! If someone stole your material I'm sure you'd also feel entitled to discuss the controversy however you please. I myself don't care much about this issue, but when people begin to criticize the victims in this controversy it's absolutely ridiculous. Beach Fossils did nothing wrong.

CandyDropper Friday, July 31, 2015

@AJ_ROBLESSK8 If beach fossils was really caring about they should make this legally. not on twitter. Professionals does like this. Until verified people prove the songs have copyright infringement I don't think it's possible to bash any of the both sides. I'm not bashing Beach Fossil's part, It's just unprofessional and pretty tacky doing this as an artists against another artist on social network.

ygfan15 Friday, July 31, 2015

@AJ_ROBLESSK8 If you could enumerate the reasons/evidence why you're so adamant on accusing theft in this matter, then I back down, concede and accept that hyukoh plagiarized. Otherwise, your accusation stands on baseless grounds. Style is very subjective and personal. You can say that one or the other have similar style/taste but you can never say that they're identical. It is understandable that both parties feel strong entitlement for their music; music is very personal after all. I never criticized Beach Fossils for their music because there is no need to. They're successful and obviously, their music is a strong evidence for that. However, who the victim is in this issue is just a matter of perspective. It is safe to say that both parties are victims here. What I discussed in my previous comment was the differentiation of their response and in no words or sentence did I attack BF musically. If BF is truly confident that their music was plagiarized, you should be assured that they'll act on it. As I have said, music is very personal and artists feel territorial and protective about their craft. If they themselves did not acknowledge the claims, I can't really see any reason for anyone, such as yourself, to accuse hyukoh as such.

AJ_ROBLESSK8 Friday, July 31, 2015

@CandyDropper Beach Fossils themselves let it be known that they don't care. They really don't have anything to gain from a legal battle. They just want the public to be aware that their melody was imitated. There's nothing unprofessional about stating that. They tweeted that to their twitter followers, their fans, it wasn't intended to stir up controversy.

AJ_ROBLESSK8 Saturday, August 1, 2015

@ygfan15 I never said I have an invested interest on accusing Hyukoh of plagarism. If you look at my comments throughout this thread, I mention that my only issue is with people taking issue against Beach Fossils. BF did nothing wrong. They just stated their POV on the issue. If you listen to the Beach Fossils song "Golden Age," which was released in 2010 and compare the rhythm to that of "Panda Bear" by Hyukoh, there is a point within the song in which the melody is clearly copied, whether intentional or not, it's still unoriginal, and copied. But that isn't my main concern, as I said, I'm here because the BF is getting undeserved hate for simply stating their opinion. BF themselves said they don't care, nor should anyone else. People just need to lay off with the unnecessary hate towards BF, they are the victims, not hyukoh.

CandyDropper Saturday, August 1, 2015

@ygfan15 adamant doesn't look like some word coming from someone secure about their neutral opinion. I'm not adamant in nothing. Only stupid people close themselves picking one side when it comes to music only. I just don't think any of the sides (if just a regular person and not a lawyer or professional related to the final judgement about the case) can put the nose in this. It's their cash, their songs, their money, their companies (even if both are indie groups they have reps for this kind of matter) and until someone qualified to do so, can affirm or deny the supposed, plagiarism, it's just a waste of time, talent and music to pick one side blindly. Just enjoy both. Both are different songs. No matter how similar some people may find them, They're different.

CandyDropper Saturday, August 1, 2015

@AJ_ROBLESSK8 The fact they don't care about it is probably because the plagiarism wasn't verified. So if they're wrong, they're just acting bad toward Hyukoh band's efforts with their music. Using the surging success in south korea to express something they don't have proof to claim it's a plagiarism occurrence, If they really didn't care, they should act less ratchet in their social network. Not only as a group but as professionals. I'm not hating them. I just deeply dislike the way they disrespected Hyukoh and pretended to be "ok" with. Even knowing they don't have proper proof to affirm it was something "stolen" from them.

hyukki Thursday, July 30, 2015

Btw, I have a message for the ones who started this rumor:

Stop talking the music like you know the shit, OK? Your shallow knowledge in music insults everyone ;

hyukki Thursday, July 30, 2015

Classic response from both sides. Well you know who got fresh recognition from this?

Before this, no one knew the Fossils. ;

(OwO) Thursday, July 30, 2015

lmao I knew Beach Fossils as they're one of my favorite bands. You can't say no one knew them just because korean music lovers didn't.

xhalksy Thursday, July 30, 2015

@(OwO) You're the only one! Sorry for that!!

AJ_ROBLESSK8 Friday, July 31, 2015

I've been a Beach Fossils fan since 2010, one of my favorite bands. Before this I didn't know Hyukoh. Don't speak down on Beach Fossils just because you didn't know about them for whatever reason.

AJ_ROBLESSK8 Friday, July 31, 2015

@xhalksy @(OwO) Isn't the only one, Beach Fossils have been one of the best bands this decade.

Fadouu Thursday, July 30, 2015

shf_ren Thursday, July 30, 2015
