Former Wonder Girls member Sunye is facing heavy criticism from Korean netizens after her tribute post to U.S. conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who recently passed away.
On her Instagram story, Sunye shared a screenshot of Kirk's widow Erika Kirk's speech, adding the caption, "Until his last moment on this earth, he testified to his Savior Jesus Christ," and the verses, "This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:9-10."

Korean netizens are reacting negatively, pointing out that Sunye appeared to overlook or ignore the controversial messages.
They are criticizing Sunye of being "out of touch" and "irresponsible," with some stating they feel embarrassed by her continued display of religious devotion in ways that disregard broader social and political context.
Korean netizens commented:
"If it’s just about Christianity, then I guess she would’ve mourned Hitler or Kim Il Sung too."
"If you rely on religion so much that you have no personal thoughts or will, that’s brainwashing, gaslighting, and mental weakness. In other words, if you go beyond reason and can’t think straight, you’re already out of your mind. Religion is just an excuse. There are so many people like that who don’t even realize they’re sick mentally."
"Some of these fundamental protestant Christians are mentally ill, seriously."
"Shouldn’t religion be seen separately in the first place? Why are they mourning just because of religion…"
"Not surprised."
"Christianity lol."
"Feels like she thinks it was some kind of martyrdom…"
"Honestly, that religion makes me shake my head."
"That guy opposed gun control, too, right? Did Jesus give permission to shoot guns? So basically, no matter what nonsense someone says, if they’re the same religion, it’s all okay?"
"Not even surprising. Honestly, I wouldn’t even want to have a friend in that religion…"
"I’m Christian, but what does some guy’s death have to do with me? He supported guns and got shot himself. What can you do? Seriously, don’t drag Christianity through the mud like this. I’m so embarrassed I can’t stand it."
"Why are they acting like he was Jesus himself? lol. Reading the Bible and then attaching it to that nonsense, ridiculous. When your beliefs are wrong, you end up like that."
"Another Wonder Girls member from the same group is also Christian, but she went to Namtaeryeong protests and fought for women’s rights as a feminist. Totally different from her. So maybe what Sunye believes in is basically her own separate religion lololol."
"!? So what, just being in the same religion is enough?? lol."
"Gasp… Sunye unnie… I was okay with all the other things people criticized you for, but this one, I don’t think I can agree with."
"I have a religion too, but at least keep it moderate. What are you even trying to do?"
"Before anything else, did she even know what kind of person he was and what kind of thoughts he had while living? These fundie Christians are seriously going wild."
"Most Christians don’t even know who Charlie Kirk is. It’s frustrating."
"Protestantism...."
"Feels like 'fashion mourning', like it’s trendy among protestant Christians. Maybe they think mourning Charlie-whatever makes them look cool."
"What kind of thought process is that, I really wonder… Agreeing with policies that kill people, then when the person dies by the very gun they supported, praying that God will love him. What’s the mechanism of that way of thinking?"
"I don't even think she knew who he was before his death."
"Does she know all the things he used to say?"
