A Korean historical drama has made its mark on the global stage. JTBC’s 'Sacred Jewel' has been officially invited to the Cannes International Series Festival.
Production company SLL announced on April 1 that 'Sacred Jewel' has been selected for the “Rendezvous” section at the 9th Cannes International Series Festival (Canneseries), which opens on April 23.
Set in the year 1258, the series follows the story of an escort troop that ventures into a battlefield in search of a sacred relic, the Avalokitesvara Bead, believed to protect the nation. It also depicts a princess who sets out to save them.
The large-scale historical project drew attention from its early planning stages. Ahn Bo Hyun stars as Baek Gyeol, the leader of the escort troop, while Lee Sung Min plays Choi Gu, commander of the Yabyeolcho unit, and Claudia Kim takes on the role of Princess Gyeonghwa.
Among the cast, Ahn Bo Hyun and Claudia Kim will attend the festival in Cannes on behalf of the series. They are set to meet global fans through events including the pink carpet and guest visits (GV), marking the drama’s official step into the international market.
The “Rendezvous” section is a non-competitive category at Canneseries, where directors and actors participate in screenings, pink carpet appearances, and other events.
In addition to 'Sacred Jewel,' other Korean productions invited this year include 'All The Things You Are,' starring SF9’s Chani, and 'Genfluencer,' featuring actress Bae Yoon Kyung. Additionally, BLACKPINK's Jisoo has been invited to the opening ceremony, being honored with the Madame Figaro Rising Star Award.
Meanwhile, the Cannes International Series Festival will take place from April 23 to April 28 in Cannes, France.
