Kim Dong Wan of the long-running K-pop group Shinhwa has issued an indirect statement following public attention surrounding fellow member Shin Hyesung’s absence from Lee Min Woo’s recent wedding ceremony.
On March 30, Kim Dong Wan shared a message via his social media account, stating, “Why do people continue to assign meaning to someone’s decision to live quietly? It is that individual’s life. There is neither a debt owed nor an obligation to provide an explanation.”
While no individual was explicitly referenced, the statement is widely interpreted as addressing speculation regarding Shin Hyesung. Lee Min Woo married Lee Ah Mi, a third-generation Korean-Japanese, on March 29 at a hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul. The ceremony was conducted privately, with attendance limited to immediate family members and close acquaintances.

With this marriage, Lee Min Woo becomes the fourth member of Shinhwa to wed, following Eric, Junjin, and Andy. The event drew attention as all members, with the exception of Shin Hyesung, were reported to have attended. Excluding Kim Dong Wan, who remains unmarried, the attending members were accompanied by their spouses.
Shin Hyesung was not observed at the ceremony. The artist is currently on hiatus following a second conviction for driving under the influence (DUI) in 2022, for which he received a suspended sentence. His prior DUI offense occurred in 2007.
Notably, Shin Hyesung was also previously reported absent from Andy’s wedding in 2022, where he had been expected to participate in a congratulatory performance. However, subsequent accounts suggested he may have attended discreetly while wearing a mask.
Kim Dong Wan’s remarks are being viewed as a call for restraint in public speculation and respect for individual privacy.
