Park Seo Joon and Uhm Tae Goo are set to cross paths in a lawless city.
On March 31, the team behind the Disney+ original series 'I Am the Sinner' (written and directed by Hong Won Chan) announced its casting lineup, confirming Park Seo Joon, Uhm Tae Goo, and Jo Hye Joo, among others.
'I Am the Sinner' is based on a webtoon of the same name. Set in the 1980s, it tells the story of individuals who survive the underworld and risk their lives for one high-stakes opportunity.
Park Seo Joon takes on the role of Paeng, a notorious villain. He is a mysterious figure who suddenly appears ahead of the 1988 Seoul Olympics and draws others into the drug trade.
Uhm Tae Goo plays Saeng Dak, a member of the Bukgu faction. His character betrays the organization, and after accepting a once-in-a-lifetime offer from Paeng, his life is completely turned upside down.
Jo Hye Joo portrays Bok Hee, a supplier in the drug trade and Paeng’s first love. After becoming entangled with him through the drug business, she reunites with Paeng and displays unpredictable choices and actions.
The three actors recently participated in a script reading session, fully immersing themselves in their roles despite it being their first time working together. A production representative commented that they “radiated overwhelming energy.”
The cast also shared their thoughts on joining the project. Park Seo Joon said, “This is a character and story I’ve been waiting for. It’s a project that naturally sparks ambition as an actor.” He added that he will showcase a completely different side from his previous works, saying, “Through the role of Paeng, I hope to present a new side of myself.”
Uhm Tae Goo also expressed his excitement, stating, “There are a variety of characters, and the script is very engaging. I feel both nervous and excited, and I will do my best during filming.”
Jo Hye Joo remarked, “The historical setting and each character’s personal story left a strong impression. It’s such a compelling project that I wanted to join as soon as I read the script.”
Director Hong Won Chan will helm the series. He previously expanded the boundaries of the action genre with the film 'Deliver Us From Evil.'
Meanwhile, 'I Am the Sinner' will be released worldwide exclusively on Disney+.
