The conversation history between former NewJeans member Danielle and fans will soon disappear from the group’s official communication platform, Phoning.
On March 3, NewJeans’ agency ADOR posted an announcement on fan community platform Weverse regarding updates to Phoning, the exclusive communication platform for NewJeans and their official fandom, Bunnies.
According to the notice, Phoning will reorganize some of its existing content as part of efforts to improve the service. The platform stated that it deeply values the memories built between the artists and fans. However, in order to provide a better service, certain content will be restructured, and some features will be discontinued according to the announced schedule.
Phoning added that since the content contains cherished memories for fans, there will be a designated viewing period before its removal. Specifically, the Messages tab conversation history with Danielle will no longer be available starting at 11 a.m. on April 3. The platform asked for fans’ understanding and continued support for NewJeans. The move comes amid an ongoing legal dispute between Danielle and ADOR.
On November 29, 2024, Danielle held an emergency press conference alongside fellow NewJeans members, declaring that trust with ADOR had completely broken down and that they could no longer continue activities under the agency. She claimed that their exclusive contracts would be terminated as of the press conference.
In response, ADOR filed a lawsuit to confirm the validity of its exclusive contracts with the members. The court of first instance ruled in favor of ADOR, determining that there were no legal grounds severe enough to justify termination of the contracts. The ruling stated that all six claims presented by the NewJeans side were difficult to recognize as factual.
Following the first trial’s loss, members, including Hanni, chose not to appeal. Haerin and Hyein later announced their intention to return to ADOR on November 12 after sufficient discussions with the agency. Hanni confirmed her return on December 29, while Minji is reportedly still in talks with ADOR.
On December 29, ADOR announced the termination of its exclusive contract with Danielle. The agency also filed a lawsuit against her and others, seeking 43.1 billion KRW (approximately 32 million USD) in penalties and damages.
ADOR stated in an official position that while it is difficult to disclose detailed reasons due to ongoing legal procedures, violations of the exclusive contract had occurred. The agency cited actions such as signing contracts that conflict with the existing agreement, engaging in independent entertainment activities, and damaging the reputation or credibility of ADOR and NewJeans. It added that despite requests for correction, the issues were not resolved within the given timeframe, leading to termination.
On January 16, Danielle addressed fans through her official account. She said it is not easy to let go of the time that has passed, but she now wants to briefly set aside the past and focus on what truly matters, including their hearts, dreams, and the warm days ahead. She added that many Bunnies may feel confused or curious at this moment. While she cannot share everything right now, she emphasized that where her heart is headed has not changed.
She continued by saying that Minji, Hanni, Haerin, and Hyein are her second family. Even if their timing has not aligned, she believes nothing can tear them apart. She described their bond as a one-of-a-kind relationship that should never be taken for granted. She concluded by stating that although difficulties may lie ahead, they will continue moving forward while protecting one another, as that remains most important to her.
