Rapper and broadcaster DinDin drew attention after candidly revealing a shift in his musical direction, effectively declaring that he is stepping away from traditional hip-hop.
DinDin appeared as a guest on the YouTube channel of Super Junior’s Donghae and Eunhyuk, released on the 30th.
During the show, he addressed a past controversy stemming from remarks he made on a variety program. Regarding criticism that he suggested celebrities are out of touch with reality, he explained, “It was conveyed differently from my intention. Some parts were edited in a provocative way. I simply meant that we should at least understand how the world works.”

He also opened up about the realities of his music career. “Whenever I release an album, it’s always a loss,” he said, pointing to the burden of production costs. Unlike idol groups with stable fanbases and predictable sales, he noted that the revenue structure for solo artists is far less certain, making album production difficult.
Reflecting on his past creative process, DinDin added, “I used to have this mindset that I had to write all my songs myself.” He explained that taking full responsibility for every aspect of production limited his expression, and that he now collaborates with external songwriters.
In particular, he emphasized a change in his perspective on hip-hop itself. “I don’t fit with the current flow of hip-hop,” he said. “I can’t write lyrics like ‘I’m wearing a 300 million won watch.’ It doesn’t feel cool to me.” He continued, “I used to engage in that kind of self-flexing, but it doesn’t suit me anymore. I don’t think I can do hip-hop like that now. Regardless of genre, I just want to make music that makes people feel good when they listen to it.”
Meanwhile, DinDin also spoke candidly about his dating style. “I don’t believe in having close friends of the opposite sex,” he said. “When I like someone, I go straight for it. But I tend to take things slow for about three months and think seriously about marriage.”
