Influencer Choi Jun Hee, the daughter of late actress Choi Jin Silrecently announced her marriage, drawing attention not only to the news itself but also to the location chosen for her wedding photos.

On February 16 KST, she shared photos on social media along with a long message saying, “I’m getting married!”

She explained her decision by writing, “Family was never an easy word for me. After a childhood filled with sadness, I long promised myself that one day I would build a warm home of my own. Now, rather than simply being someone’s daughter, I want to live a stronger and warmer life as a wife and as the creator of my own new family.”

She is scheduled to marry a non-celebrity office worker 11 years her senior on May 16 at a hotel in Seoul’s Gangnam district. She emphasized caution regarding speculation, stating, “My fiancé is a private individual, so I ask people to refrain from unverified stories or assumptions. This is a precious everyday life for both of us.”

However, the wedding pictorial she released sparked discussion online.

The background of the photos shows rows of small statues resembling Buddhist figures, decorated with flowers and ornaments. Some online commenters suggested the arrangement resembles statues commonly seen in Japanese temples for mizuko kuyō, a memorial ritual honoring miscarried or stillborn children. Still, based on the photos alone, it is difficult to confirm whether the location is actually connected to that ritual or simply a general Buddhist setting.

Online reactions were mixed after the photos circulated. Some commenters wrote, “This gives me chills,” “Didn’t they do any background research?” and “Usually, photographers pre-select shoot locations, so it seems the photographer may have chosen it based only on visuals without prior research.” Others were more understanding, saying, “They probably didn’t know,” “You can’t be expected to know every aspect of Japanese culture,” and “If they had known, they likely wouldn’t have chosen that place — they must feel the most uncomfortable about it themselves.”

As of now, Choi Jun Hee has not released any official statement regarding the matter.

Born in 2003, Choi Jun Hee is the daughter of the late actress Choi Jin Sil and former professional baseball player Cho Sung Min. She currently works as an influencer, communicating mainly through social media.

Choi Jin Sil married Cho Sung Min in 2000 and divorced in 2004. They had two children, Choi Hwan Hee and Choi Jun Hee. Choi Jin Sil passed away in 2008, followed by her younger brother in 2010, and Cho Sung Min in 2013.
