
The film 'The King’s Warden' (directed by Jang Hang Jun) is leading the box office during the Lunar New Year holiday season.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system, 'The King’s Warden' recorded a cumulative audience of 2,322,645 as of 2:16 PM on February 16.
The movie debuted at No. 1 upon release. It surpassed 1 million viewers within just five days and crossed the 2 million mark in 12 days.
Set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457, 'The King’s Warden' tells the story of a village chief who voluntarily chooses exile to help revive his struggling community and a young former king who is banished after being dethroned.
The film follows the young deposed monarch Danjong, played by Park Ji Hoon, as he seeks to stage a comeback from exile. At the heart of the story is the special bond that develops between Danjong and village chief Eom Heung Do, portrayed by Yoo Hae Jin.
Park Ji Hoon and Yoo Hae Jin’s nuanced performances have fueled strong word of mouth, with audiences praising their ability to portray Danjong’s life with both humor and poignancy.
Meanwhile, 'Humint' ranked second at the box office with 703,841 moviegoers, followed by 'Number One,' which drew 117,151 viewers to place third.
