Controversy surrounding Super Junior’s Choi Siwon continues to spread following a recent social media post, prompting his agency SM Entertainment to file a criminal complaint against malicious commenters.

SM Entertainment announced the update through its online reporting platform ‘kwangya119,’ detailing the status of legal action taken to protect the rights of its artist. The agency stated, “We have recently confirmed the continuous and repeated posting of malicious content, including personal attacks and defamatory remarks against our artist. We take the seriousness of this matter very seriously.” It added, “In cooperation with the law firm Shin & Kim (Sejong), we have filed a complaint with the investigative authorities.”

SM further emphasized that it is securing evidence against the creation and distribution of false information, as well as posts containing mockery and contempt. The agency said it plans to gradually expand legal procedures after reviewing the collected materials. “We will respond firmly with civil and criminal legal action without any leniency or settlement,” the company stressed.

The controversy began on February 19, when Choi Siwon posted the phrase “不義必亡, 土崩瓦解" on his personal SNS account. The post drew various interpretations as it was uploaded on the same day former President Yoon Suk Yeol was reportedly sentenced to life imprisonment. Choi Siwon has not issued any separate statement regarding the matter.

SM Entertainment concluded by reiterating its stance: “We will prioritize the protection of our artist’s rights above all else,” signaling the possibility of additional legal action.

Full Statement from SM Entertainment

"Hello, this is SM Entertainment.

We would like to inform you about the progress of our legal response to protect the rights and interests of our artist, Choi Siwon.

We have recently confirmed that malicious posts, including personal attacks and defamatory remarks, have been continuously and repeatedly written and posted about our artist. We take the seriousness of this matter very seriously.

Based on materials collected through our internal monitoring, we have thoroughly reviewed the content of the posts and attached images. For the confirmed criminal acts, we have filed a complaint with the investigative authorities in cooperation with the law firm Shin & Kim (Sejong).

We are also continuously securing evidence against acts such as creating and distributing false information about our artist on online communities and SNS platforms, as well as posting content that mocks or shows contempt. After reviewing these posts, we plan to gradually expand the scope of our legal complaints.

To strictly address these illegal acts that cause severe mental harm to our artists and to protect our artists’ rights and interests, we once again make it clear that we will take firm civil and criminal legal action without any leniency or settlement.

As the collection, reporting, and legal response to such malicious posts are ongoing, we ask that you refrain from becoming involved in any unfortunate incidents. We will continue to make our utmost efforts in all areas to prioritize and protect the rights and interests of our artists.

Thank you."
