Days after an exclusive media outlet report raised speculations about an alleged male K-Pop singer providing financial support for a 'hidden child' born with an ex-lover outside of marriage, conjectures about the identity of this male K-Pop singer has run rampant online. The conjectures have particularly targeted male K-Pop acts of the 2nd and 3rd generations.
On February 21 KST, in response to some rumors attempting to connect the 'hidden child' case with a member of Highlight, the group's management label Around US Entertainment issued a stern statement of denial and legal action, found below.
"Hello, this is Around US Entertainment.
Recently, we have confirmed that the members of Highlight are suffering from serious damage caused by the spread of groundless rumors on various social media platforms and online communities. In relation to this, many fans have already sent captured PDF files and URLs to our official email.
First and foremost, we would like to state clearly that the unfounded information currently circulating online is absolutely not true.
The distribution of such false information constitutes defamation under the 'Act on the Use of Communications Networks and Information Protection', and such actions irreparably damage the honor and trust of our members, resulting in significant mental and economic loss. Accordingly, we inform you that we intend to take the following strong legal actions.
Criminal Action: We will proceed with criminal complaints for defamation under article 70 of the Act on the Use of Communications Networks and Information Protection, as well as articles 307 and 309 of the the corresponding criminal acts, against those who spread false information.
Civil Action and Punishment for Damages: We will pursue all legal measures, including civil claims for damages, against anyone who has caused economic loss to the members of Highlight and this agency through the spread of false rumors.
We reiterate at this time that we will not stand by and watch any acts that defame or harm our artists through the spread of unverified rumors and/or malicious posts and comments. We will hold those responsible accountable through stern legal action.
We are always deeply grateful for the warm affection and interest shown by the fans. We will continue to do our best for the protection of our artists.

Meanwhile, Highlight's Dongwoon married a non-celebrity woman in September of 2023, becoming the first and only member of his group to tie the knot.
