Weverse, a subsidiary of HYBE, has issued an official apology following controversy over the unauthorized leakage and misuse of users’ personal information.
On January 5, Choi Joon Won, CEO of Weverse Company, announced on the platform that an internal investigation confirmed an employee had unlawfully accessed and attempted to privately use other users’ personal data. Choi emphasized that the incident goes beyond an individual’s misconduct and reflects shortcomings in the company’s internal oversight, offering a sincere apology to fans who trusted the platform.
According to Weverse Company, the issue was uncovered during interviews, written statements, and forensic investigations. A staff member involved in fan event operations reportedly checked the winner status of a specific fansign applicant outside their assigned duties and obtained additional personal details, which were later shared in a private group chat with acquaintances.
It was also confirmed that the same employee shared screenshots of a public broadcast event winners list for personal reasons, leaking the names, birthdates, and phone numbers of 30 individuals. While the employee allegedly attempted to influence certain event outcomes, the company stated that no actual changes were made and that events proceeded normally. The matter has since been reported to investigative authorities.
Weverse Company confirmed that all affected users have been notified in accordance with relevant laws. The employee has been immediately removed from duties, referred to a disciplinary committee, and reported through a criminal complaint. Choi stated that the company will implement strict measures to prevent recurrence and reflect improvements in future fan events to restore trust.
