
Veteran actor Ahn Sung Ki has passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was 74.
According to his agency Artist Company on January 5, Ahn Sung Ki passed away at 9 AM that morning.
On December 30 last year at around 4 PM, Ahn collapsed while eating after choking on food. He was rushed to the hospital in cardiac arrest and received treatment in the intensive care unit, but never regained consciousness.
As his condition worsened, his eldest son, Ahn Da Bin, who had been overseas, urgently returned to Korea. He arrived on January 2 and remained by his father’s side. Ahn Sung Ki passed away three days later, six days after being admitted to the ICU in an unconscious state.
Ahn Sung Ki was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2019 and underwent treatment. Although he was initially declared cancer-free, the disease later recurred during follow-up monitoring, and he resumed treatment. Despite his illness, he continued to make public appearances with a warm smile, attending events such as the 13th Beautiful Artist Awards, the opening ceremony of the late Kang Soo Yeon memorial exhibition, the April 19 Democracy and Peace Awards, the 10th Wildflower Film Awards, and the 43rd Golden Cinematography Awards.
His funeral will be held as a film industry funeral, jointly organized by the Shin Young Kyun Arts and Culture Foundation and the Korean Film Actors Association. Fellow actors, including Lee Jung Jae and Jung Woo Sung, will serve as pallbearers.
The wake will be held in Room 31 of the funeral hall at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital. The funeral procession is scheduled for January 9 at 6 AM, with burial to take place at Byeolgeurida Cemetery in Yangpyeong.
