[Spoiler Alert: Episode Summary]
This article contains plot points and episode summaries from ‘Typhoon Family’ Episode 14.
As the tvN weekend drama led by Lee Jun Ho and Kim Min Ha approached its final episodes, viewers found themselves embroiled in a heated debate over an unexpected turn into full-blown makjang territory.
According to Nielsen Korea, Episode 14 of 'Typhoon Family' (written by Jang Hyun, directed by Lee Na Jung and Kim Dong Hwi), which aired on November 23, recorded a nationwide rating of 9.5% among paid households. Peak ratings reached 10.3%. This marked a 2.2 percentage point jump from Episode 13’s 7.3% the previous day. Among the key 20–49 demographic, the episode drew an average of 2.7%, peaking at 3%, ranking first across cable and terrestrial networks in its time slot.
This episode revealed a secret tied to a promissory note dating back nine years. At the time, Pyo Park Ho (played by Kim Sang Ho), CEO of the nearly bankrupt Pyo Sang Seon, borrowed 40 million KRW (approx. 27,248 USD) from Typhoon Company’s president Kang Jin Young (portrayed by Sung Dong Il) and signed a document transferring 30% of his company shares.

That note became the key to saving the company, now in Kang Tae Poong’s (Lee Jun Ho) hands. After a warehouse fire caused by Pyo Hyun Joon (played by Moo Jin Sung) disrupted production, Tae Poong proposed exchanging the promissory note for 3 million surgical gloves Pyo Sang Seon had in reserve. He even pledged to relinquish the CEO position if he failed to retrieve the document by the deadline. The deal went through, allowing Tae Poong to complete the government procurement delivery successfully.

Though the company narrowly escaped financial collapse, new turmoil followed. Cha Seon Taek (played by Kim Jae Hwa) was exposed for leaking company information to Hyun Joon in the past, shocking the staff. Her information leak had led to the arson attack that endangered Oh Mi Seon’s (Kim Min Ha) life, shattering 26 years of trust. Crushed by guilt, Seon Taek sold her home to repay the money she had taken from Park Ho and was ultimately fired from her juice company job.

Tae Poong still faced an urgent challenge: he had to secure the promissory note to keep his position. He sneaked into the deserted Euljiro office late at night but found nothing and was eventually caught by a patrolling security guard and taken to the police station. Exhausted from the relentless search, he accepted Mi Seon’s suggestion to take a short seaside break. The two, who had been sprinting nonstop to save the company, enjoyed a brief moment of peace on the beach like any ordinary couple.
But the episode’s most shocking moment came elsewhere. Hyun Joon’s violent instability reached new heights. Enraged that the surgical gloves had ended up with Tae Poong despite his arson attempt, he stormed into his father’s office at night, shouting that he had “wanted to be acknowledged just once.” Park Ho dismissed him as a “failure,” sending Hyun Joon into a rage. He struck his father on the head, then locked the unconscious man inside a container—an act that viewers overwhelmingly condemned as crossing the line.

Meanwhile, Tae Poong, still unable to locate the promissory note, concluded that the guarantee letter itself proved the document’s existence and tried to confront Park Ho directly—but could not reach him. By then, Hyun Joon had already seized control of the CEO’s office, forcing Taepoong to leave behind proof of his attempted visit and retreat.
Despite the chaos, Typhoon Company regained momentum. With the surgical glove delivery complete, the team returned to their Euljiro headquarters. Taepoong, Mi Seon, Ko Ma Jin (Lee Chang Hoon), Koo Myung Kwan (Kim Song Il), and Bae Song Joong (Lee Sang Jin) reopened the office, took commemorative photos, and celebrated a fresh start. Tae Poong further strengthened the company’s family-like culture by announcing he would forgo a private CEO office and work alongside all employees.
But the peace didn’t last. After stepping out to take a call, Bae Song Joong burst back into the office in tears, clutching Taepoong’s hand and pleading, “My dad is dying. Please save my dad.” His terror signaled yet another impending crisis.

Viewer reactions following the broadcast were intense. One commented, “Even for a drama, showing a child hitting a parent is too much. They crossed the line.” Another wrote, “I was watching with my kids and had to change the channel. What on earth… I’m furious.”
The abrupt transition from a grotesque patricide scene to a lighthearted beach romance also drew criticism: “How do you go from a patricide scene to a beach date? What is happening?” One viewer complained, “Writer… Why waste such good actors? At least move that scene to the end—how are we supposed to focus when you cut straight to a cheerful beach scene?”
Questions about the drama’s overall coherence grew louder:
“I thought it was just me thinking ‘what the heck?’”
“I couldn’t believe my eyes.”
“These bizarre plot turns are disappointing.”
“I don’t know what I just watched.”
“I tolerated the forced romance, but patricide makjang? This is too much.”
“Fourteen episodes of pure frustration.”
“A promising show ruined by nonstop crises and a never-ending search for the promissory note.”
“A drama unworthy of its talented cast.”

Others still expressed support:
“I’m watching for the actors’ incredible performances…”
“Hyun Joon needs to go to the hospital… how will this end?”
“I hope the final two episodes wrap things up well. Fighting, Typhoon Family!”
“The endless cycle of problems and solutions is entertaining.”
“Well, that’s drama for you.”
Once considered a highly anticipated series from its premiere, 'Typhoon Family' has left many viewers disillusioned as it veers sharply into chaotic territory ahead of its finale. With only two episodes remaining, attention now turns to how the drama will conclude.
Episode 15 airs Saturday, November 29, and Episode 16 airs on Sunday, November 30, at 9:10 PM on tvN.
