Singer-songwriter Park Sae Byul has shocked viewers not only with her voice but with her incredible academic background.
On the November 23 episode of MBC's 'King of Mask Singer', the masked singer 'Bean Pod' was revealed to be Park Sae Byul after a close battle with the reigning champion.
Park Sae Byul is a singer-songwriter under Antenna Music, known for having her musical talents recognized early on by the legendary You Hee Yeol, which set her on the path of a professional musician.
After taking off her mask, she lived up to her reputation as the music industry's representative 'brainiac'. She revealed, "I studied math and science in Daejeon (the city where KAIST is located in) for about 10 years. I actually earned a Ph.D. in AI from the engineering department." When the MC asked if she meant the prestigious KAIST university, she confirmed it, surprising the audience.
She explained that she studied how to combine music with Artificial Intelligence. "In 2023, I released the world's first AI male vocal album by converting my own voice into a man's voice," she shared.
Park Sae Byul then announced an exciting new project. "I am releasing a 'Part 2' album soon. For this album, every instrument except the piano was created using AI," she revealed, asking fans to look forward to her unique musical experiment.
Beyond her singing career, she has an elite academic portfolio. She currently teaches 'Culture Technology' and 'Music Information Retrieval' at Yonsei University's Underwood International College.
In 2023, she made headlines for earning her Ph.D. from the KAIST Graduate School of Culture Technology. Her research involved using Natural Language Processing (NLP) to analyze music with AI. She even developed her own algorithm called 'Mel2Word', proving her deep expertise in the field.
